Since i started riding this year one of the things ive learned is the nod. the first day on my bike i saw plenty of other sports bikes and they all gave me the nod and some a wave. Cruiser riders musnt like sports bike riders cuz they never say gday. today something weird happened. :icon_scratch: someone a scooter gave me a nod. i don't mean any offence to scooter riders but i felt bad for ignoring it. what are the rules of the nod? should i have acknowledged the scooter with a nod? i kinda dont want to but are there gangs of scooter riders that will come beat me up?
ahh, the nod, its subtle but its there, I find myself instigating the nod more often than not. I look at it as a sign of respect along the lines of "hey man (or woman) , nice bike, good to see you out there enjoying it" I dont think I have seen many cruiser riders holding back on the nod though. Bus drivers, truck drivers do the wave.. Motorcycle riders have the nod, I like the nod  it got me thinking ways we communicate such as hand signals... Chris
Do I like this subject?, you better believe it. The NOD is but one means of recognition between riders, an acknowledgement that we are special, we have chosen the open road on two wheels and pride reigns supreme. I find myself nodding more and more, it maters not what the other rider is on, I simply like the gesture. Another one that I have seen from time to time is the lifting of the glove, another means of recognition. Go for a walk these days and see how many people acknowledge you, we motorcyclist have all over them. Like they say! if it feels right, do it. Phil
My names Len and I'm a nodder. I love giving and recieving the nod it makes you remember that your not alone on your bike. On a side note its amazing how many motorcyclists stop if you are pulled over on the side of the road. Feel free to give me the nod anytime, and you never know i may reciprocate. ( also the glove is another good one)
Thought I'd share this one. Few days ago I was cruising down the highway, checked my mirrors and saw a cop coming my way. Checked my speed! as he came up alongside me he lifted the glove and carried on his way. I was so tempted to take both hands off the handle bars and give him the wave, thought better of it. Left me with a good feeling. Phil
Brad You do know that scooter riders have feelings as well! Also when you give them a nod or a wave you should see the look on there face it is somewhere between suprise that a bike rider has accepted them and shock cause they have no idea where the bike is you must be nodding at cause it can't be them you gave the nod to. They will give you a huge nod in return. You might even feel better yourself for doing it. So give it a try next time you see a scooter. As for the outlaw clubs yes you are right they never give you a nod back but it is always good to have them on your side.
Yeah I realised that was a bit harsh as I wrote it, but left it there for the jest. I did nod t'ord them for a while but never got a return nod - you're no doubt correct PD - they're too surprised to nod back! I'll up the ante and see what happens
more nodding \ waving, seems everyone is doing it http://motorcycles.about.com/u/ua/readerrides/Do-You-Wave-To-Other-Motorcyclists.htm
