Hey tomo It always good to hear about a good mechanical outlet for our bikes. Seems South East Queensland is well catered for so far, whats happening in the other states, haven't heard from anyone south of the border. When you find a good mechanic, you're set. Phil
I took the bike in for its first service over the weekend and I must say I was very pleased with Graham Morris Motorcycles. They are at Cameron St Broadmeadow (Newcastle) They fixed everything I asked them to do and at no charge for the parts that I expected to be paying for as it wasn't a warranty fault. They found some faults I didn't know about that were warranty. The bike came out handling much better and sounding and running great. The service was cheaper than quoted ;D They have good priced tyres as well. All up I would say I am very happy with them.
Hey Phil Well done mate, nice to hear about a service coming out cheaper than quoted, somewhat of a rarity these days. And a satisfied customer as well, I'd call that a good outcome. Another mechanical outlet to add to our growing list of Great Mechanics. Phil
Can anyone recommend me anything in/around Melbourne? Also how much should I pay (ballpark) for a 40,000 km service on a '95 across? Dynabike quoted me $895 including tune, parts, labour and dyno tests...
Hey Artemis Please do yourself a favor and inform this company (Dynabikes) that you do not wish to buy shares in there company. I'm not certain which service the 40k is, if tappets need doing you would expect to part with $350 to$400 max. Here is my take. Change the oil and filter yourself, clean the air filter or renew and do some checks yourself. Then find a mechanic to do your tappets, your wallet will thank you. Also, if you remove the fairings prior to taking the bike to the mechanic, price will diminish as it time consuming. Change the plugs yourself, I buy mine for around $4.00 each. Alas I don't know a mechanic in Melbourne, perhaps other members can help with this. Cheers Phil
Greg Gaskin at Ride Motorcycles in Tamworth is one of the old school type mechanics that finds out why something went wrong and fixes the cause, not just stick a new bit on. Can throughly recomend him to anyone needing work on all types of bikes.
Have to give a massive shout out to Murray from Retro Motorcycles down in Ormiston (QLD) for some top work on my ZXR250 Delivered the bike fully assembled, he did a compression test, carb balance, and fixed up/replaced some of the vacuum tubes that were going to the wrong place/didn't look great and then put it all back together. Had all the figures and old parts for me on arrival. Charge..... $100 buck... legit Bike runs much better now is all I can say. I will defiantly be returning there for some more work. Unit 9, 9-11 Trade St, Ormiston 07 3488 0304
Great to hear you got a good mechanic, when your pride and joy is on the line, we need these guys. Will keep him in mind and add him to our list. Cheers mate
I can also vouch for Murray. I've known him for 20+ years and he's one of the best mechanics around. He's got 36 years experience working on motorcycles so there's not much that he doesn't know and his prices are always more than fair. He's a great bloke too.
Hey Guys, Anyone know a quality mechanic around North Brissie - North Lakes, Redcliffe, Brendale etc?
Got put onto this bloke the day I got my bike, Honest as can be if you ask how to do something he tells you, doesn't sting ya for his knowledge. Always up for a chat (even if you aren't) Mick's Bike & Car Tyres 1/6 Johnstone Rd Brendale 4500 Ph: 07 3881 0033
Well done Brendan, getting a good mechanic is GOLD. Prepared to share info and knowledge is even better. I am lucky in that my mechanic here on the Sunshine Coast is a top mechanic but has become a good friend, one that I value greatly.
i have used these guy's a couple times now, great guy's, keep you up to date and are good on the price. http://www.reddyboyzmotox.com.au/
I used Mick at Mick's Bike & Car Tyres, absolutely top bloke, very happy with the work he's done. Unfortunately he's based out at Brendale, and I'm in Oxley. A new place has opened up in Yeerongpilly, the foreman from Pro Honda has just wrapped up 17 years and has started his own business called True Tune. The guy definitely knows Hondas, I'll be taking my VFR there once its due for a service and tune.
