    Hey Guys,

I'll post a pic, but on my front tyre, there are many fine cracks on the rim rubber only on both sides. The back tyre does not have any of these and I was told by prev owner that they were replaced at the same time...

There is heaps tread left and the wear indicators are still a long ways off so I dont wont to do anything drastic like replace the sucker, but I have been told that if there are ANY cracks however fine in a tyre to just replace it to avoid potential calamity.

My thoughts are that the previous owner left it sitting and the pressure gradually went out and then he rode it or sumthin and cracked the rim rubber???

    Any initial suggestions?

    Thanks
    Nate.

Small cracks in the sidewall? The tire is dry rotting. Nothing you can do for it. Although the tires may have been fitted at the same time, that doesn't mean that they were manufactured at the same time.

I'll have to try and find it, but over on the Brotherhood, someone posted up a "How to read Tire Codes on the sidwall" article. This will tell you when the tire was made.

    replace the front for sure!
I rode around for about 500kms on a cracked front. had 3 crashes. Got the new front and there is a crap load more grip. It's pretty important

Yamaha Moorooka combined with you guys said replace the front and thats exactly what I'm doing though its a shame with the amount of tread left.

    Anyway:
New Front tyre fitted = $140
No blow outs at 120kph+ = Priceless...

If your tyre has perished to the point of getting fine cracks, the tread has probably gone hard as well with a fair loss of grip.

You did the right thing by getting a new tyre.
