Hey guys, I am finally on this forum after finding out how to register =D

I purchased my 1991 FZR250 3LN about 2 months ago and noticed the first issue a few days after purchase.
Basically at first it had a crappy idle and would idle very high and stall if it was too low. I cleaned the carbies and played around with a diy sync device made from glass bottles. (I have purchased a proper one but has not arrived in post yet.)

Now I am having an issue where when I take off from a red light I have no power until I hit 5K, sometimes my bike just stalls completely and many times it has not started and I have to push it home
I have adjusted the floats to 15MM measuring from the carb casing to the top of the float in order to lower the fuel level.

Does anybody know what the float height for the 3LN is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am doing my L's on this bike and I have spent more time working on her then riding her ;)

Start the bike from a cold state and touch the exhaust (just behind the front wheel) one by one and see if any feel different, I found that mine and a mates were only really running on 3 cylinders.

Thanks for the reply.
I have done this previously and found that cyl 3 was not firing. I played around with the boots and the floats to make sure they were not sticking and it fires now.
However it is still struggling to get me going and i'm 60KG so I dont think its my fat ass XD

Does anybody have the mearsurement for the floats measuring like this? http://images.sportrider.com/bikes/146- ... 5-zoom.jpg
for the 3ln3?
I have my floats set to 13MM, thinking about changing to 10MM to see if it makes a difference

*EDIT***

Played around with the mixture screws today, turned it half a turn out and the bike ran like crap, went to the shops and it would only run if I held it on full throttle. Ended up pushing it home.
Got home and turned it in a full rotation (so its now at 2.5 turns out) ran a little better but when I went up a hill in 3rd (about 6K RPM) the bike sounded like it flooded and died again, and would again, only run with full throttle.. ended up pushing it home again.
I dont think its my exup because it seems to operate correctly but I will wire it open tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.

I have no idea whether its running rich or lean because its showing signs of both.. I'm thinking about just buying second hand carbs from the net and just hoping that they work for my bike.

Can anybody give me any suggestions to get this beast running right?

Thanks fellas

Finally got a new petcock in the mail, my other one was missing the filters that filter big chunks of crap before the fuel filter and pump takes it. I now have a working reserve switch!
It seems my bike is flooding when I dont rev it hard enough or keep the revs up when going up a hill but after I have stopped it seems like I am running lean and not enough fuel is reaching the carbies..

Hey guys, quick update =D I set fuel height to about 10MM measuring to the float and that failed pretty badly, so I changed it to 14MM and set my fuel/air ratio to 2.5 turns and that seemed to have worked
It now seems to be fine at take off, it didnt want to stall or even hesitate up the hill, even in 4th gear at 3.5K rpm so thats a good thing.
I also usually drive into this empty block and play on the grass and it doesnt sound like it struggles anymore, it just chugs through like a dirt bike ;P

I just hope it stays working like this on a longer ride and then I can be sure the problems fixed.
I'll find out tonight =D and unlike heaps of posts I WILL post an update on the solution if I find it.

***EDIT***

Okay, so the bike ran fantastic for about 20 mins, no problems at all! but after 20 mins when I took off from a red light and needed to turn left I had to give way to a pedestrian.. so I sat there for about 10 seconds while she crossed.. when I went to take off i lost all power and had to pull over on the side of the road.. as soon as I let go of the accelerator my engine stalled, I gave it 1 minute and started it.
it runs like this for about 20 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbmsYTcN5G0 until I give it a really good rev, only after that does it idle correctly and allow me to continue my journey.. hmm
anybody have any clues?

I also read before that somebody was having similar issues and they blamed their fuel pump, apparently it wasnt shutting off and would just keep pumping the carbs with fuel.. but I guess thats why the float seal things are there for.. to stop the flow or fuel. Stupid question but is there any sort of computer or ecu on the bike so I can maybe reset it or..
Thanks

Just a little update guys, I finally got the time to do a valve check and my valves were WAAAAYYYYYYYY out! I cant believe I didnt distroy the engine!
I just re shimmed them all exept for one and my bike is fine when running, no stalling/overheating but now I have to tune the carbies as I am not getting very good power from the engine.
