Last Thursday I loaded my ute and camping trailer with my Honda FT500, my Yamaha YB100 and Richo's Hodaka 125 and headed off to the VJMC National Rally held this year in Canberra. My friend Wendy came along as passenger. We stayed the night at Oberon, and arrived in Canberra at 1.30pm on Friday. Booked into van park where the rally was being held and signed into the rally and got my freebies bag. This included the rally badge, polo shirt I had ordered and a copy of Jim Scaysbrook's book 'Along for the ride' (quite a good read). We attended the free 'welcome' BBQ and caught up with some members I hadn't seen since last year. After two days on the road, it was an early night. Saturday we went on the 500 for the organised ride around the lake and to the show at the National Museum. I rode back to the van park to get the YB100 and Richo's Hodaka to the show. After the show it was back to camp for a rest, and that evening a bus picked us up for the presentation dinner at a football club. The Tamworth boys came home with eight trophys, and our group leaded won the trip to Japan. We needed a bigger table to hold them all. Sundays ride was around the hills to Cotter Dam and back to the lakes edge for a 'farewell' BBQ lunch. We packed and left after this, spending the night at Lithgow. Made it home 4pm Monday. The bikes before the Saturday ride. At the show. 258 bikes entered for the show, 302 rally participants, two days of good fun.
Sadly I couldn't attend the Canberra rally due to a badly stretched cam chain. But we were thinking of you. Could have used your welding skills on my fairing bracket (mirror mount broke off) but alas. Nice pics
Vintage is pre 1960, historic is 30yrs. VJMC accept any bike over 15yrs, but in NSW must over 30yrs for cheap rego. My original plan Risky, but have taken a deposit on the YDS5 and just waiting for new owner to collect.
Home now from my little 2,000Km wander around southern Queensland, including attending the Honda ST Owners National Rally in Toowoomba and a visit to my Daughters, so here are the rest of the photos from Canberra.
The national rally should be in Queensland in 2016/17 (not confirmed yet) so you will be able to attend.
