I am chasing a cheap laptop with windows XP, I use it with my Vinyl cutter as there is no Windows 7 or 8 support for the software. Battery life not important, just needs to run XP and have 4 gig of ram, screen size - smaller the better for me Chris
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7 Don't know if you've explored this option but have heard it works well. I have a genuine disk lying around for XP I can send you if you want to dual boot your PC (as an alternate option)
two other options, get a Vista licensed Compaq/HP/Dell/IBM which can be legally downgraded - I can send you a copy of a Dell xp service pack 3 install CD - you'll need an actual activation key which can be found on old machine bound for the scrap heap second option put virtualbox on a Mac/Linux box or laptop and run xp that way - same install as above peace out
Chris, if the only problem is the driver, think about Virtual PC. It's free, and you can emulate XP on your PC. No need for extra hardware, which is a bonus.
thanks for the ideas lads, Im in IT and I know the tips and tricks with software emulation, the issue is I have some cutting software that wont run on anything higher than XP, I downloaded a demo suite today from the web and it works on Windows 8, I just have to part with hard earned and buy it
If you want to dual boot and can get a copy of XP I'm pretty sure I have some keys lying around you could use (genuine). PM me if that's the way you decide to go.
