Hahaha that black one was stupid wasnt it. They must have heated the exhaust can up and bent it. The sliver bike looks good but I want to see a FZR with a underseat mounted exhaust it would be a big job but it would be trick.

    lol

Yeah that bike was wacked lol. Just a question, why wait till the EXUP valve blows (which really can happen unless the servo motor blows then if you dont replace that you have to get a device to trick the EXUP servo motor in thinking its still working. If the Valve locks up you would have to get it working or it would reduce the power of the bike big time)?

    Any ways nice work man!!!!

Just remove the exup, remove the servo, and no worries after that. It will save you about 2 kg just removing those parts, and then if you get aluminum exhaust headers made you can save yourself another 5-8 kg's. --> The first time I changed the oil filter I thought "damn these are heavy"

The loss in power won't be a big deal considering the weight savings (this is what they do when they race fzr's - of course they are also typically revving in the optimum range of around 13-14 000 which is not advisable for on road...).

So if you plan to commute the exup is good to keep (low end power is quite important in stopo and go traffic, even if you do lane split), if you plan to hoon around and play on the weekends the exup may not be as beneficial and can be removed.

So boz you'r saying that you removed the stock exhaust which bolts on the the engine and replaced with a lighter one?

Nope. I use my bike as commuter and I need the low end power to make it a comfortable ride. The place that I bought my bike had a race fzr there wtih a non-stock exhaust. They do this on R1's etc. that race as well (see http://members.aol.com/rsinisi257/99mods.htm, second line)

I have removed the exhaust because to get to the oil filter it is needed, but I just put the stock one back on. (not sure if this remains true on the 3ln model - the fact that you have to remove exhaust to get to the filter is one of the worst design details of the 2kr in my opinion).

hey boz I have to do the same thing on my bike to get the oilfilter remove, and my bike is a 3ln model.

    its real upsetting though

But this causes a problem because Yamaha made the fzr with the exup valve in the exhaust for a reason. The reason was because the fzr didnt produce alot of low down touqe so with the exup valve it produces the alot of back presure. But if you dont mind alittle (alot) of lag down low in the power range then go for it.

I agree with the "alot" of lag. When I first had my bike and the exup was acting up (it was seized - it could be opened but took a lot of force - much more than the servo motor was providing) I unhooked it from the servo motor and wired it open. I did lose a lot of low-end power. I didn't know this at the time, it wasn't until I took the exup valve out, cleaned it (steel brush to get rid of rust and carbon with lots of elbow grease) , and put it back in did I notice the difference!

    hehe

Yeah dude. One good point for taking out the exup valve is that it makes the bike go alot quicker at top end. This is because it has nothing in the exhaust adding backpresure. But still keep it in there and just make a race muffler to fit.
