Kinda deleted my owners manual for my bike and was just curious as to what rpm a mc22 is meant to idle at. Mine currently idles at 1.5k RPM when warm.
I usually set it a little under 2k when fully warm. But It is winter right now, maybe will turn it down a little in summer.
The air is abit denser so in winter so you actually get more power , that being said you shouldn't need to change your idle damus
There's no winning with you Grey lol =p. I have tried the book setting of 1500 and it's not nice hehe. Maybe if the bike was in perfect shape then yeah, but after 24 years i think 1800-1900 is a good setting hahaha.
The funny thing is if my misses read this she would say "STOP SPREADING YOUR BULLSHIT!!! Grey is very knowledgeable and by the books, where is you just make things up as it pleases you!" Then id be like... Yes mamm =(.
If you have to idle high you have another problem Damus. But you probably knew that. You shouldn't need to idle that high even on an old bike if everything else is in spec.
Yeah I have a straight through exhaust and hi-flow air filter, my mixture on the closed throttle is lean. Hence the previous post about the pilot jets. I was this [ ] to going back to FULL stock settings, but I'm sure I will out smart Mr. Honda eventually.
You dont need to win with me ... u need to win with the bike I dont care if u set the idle to 5000rpm But what Im telling you ... and anyone else who reads this looking for info , is hopefully the correct advice. For starters , as many here have already told u , you will never get it right if you dont have a stock setup ... or at least start with one that is working correctly .... then change 1 thing at a time. And blaming it on being an old bike is rubbish ..... we had @Grasshopper FZR starting and idling perfectly.... even before the valves were done. A correctly setup and tuned bike should ..... Start cold with the choke and no throttle Start hot with no choke and no throttle And idle at the recommended RPM when at running temp.
*nods* your right. (im still gonna try this slow jet thing because I have already bought them, but yeah if that fails #probablywill I am gonna go back to full stock)
If it's any consolation you know the MC22 is a pretty punchy bike for a 250 at stock anyway so it's not like you're going to be left disappointed. If you are, time for a bigger bike
Well, my MC19 starts cold, with choke but does need a little 'blip' to fire. Then settles down nicely, purring like a kitten @ 1500 rpm when warm. MC22 motor, MC19 cams, Rotor & pick ups (still using the '19 ignition) 107 & 110 main jets & 2 washers under the needles. BTW, not the one in my avatar, a trackie I've just built.
It also kind of helps to have a tacho that starts at 0 RPM and not 3000 RPM like a certain model of Yamaha...
