    Ok guys my FZR 250 has lost a bit of performence within the last few weeks. I have noticed a little tiny bit of whiteish smoke coming from a breather pipe (im guessing its a breather pipe) when i give the bike some gas. Any ideas guys? Anything that sounds really serious? I would post a picture but im unsure how to on this forum. Im gunna have her checked out as soon as i can afford it

    White/blue smoke from the breather indicates that the rings are not sealing as well as they used to, and combustion gasses are passing into the cranckase. Has the engine been overheated lately???

    It would pay to use the thickest recommended oil for the engine.
    When i figure what grade that is I will let you know

    edit: 20w-40 is the thickest recomended oil..

    ... Might have to slip a few banana peels in too <!-- s:dban: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/th_Dancing_Bananna.gif" alt=":dban:" title="dancing bananna" /><!-- s:dban: --> Justkidding about the banana's

    Hi razorr,

    My bike use to blow white smoke out of the exhaust on the first start up of the day. After looking through fzr250 Dave had placed an insightful story about oils. From Daves information I stopped using castrol 4T 15W-50 (which is mineral based) and put in valvoline durablend 15W-50 (semi-synthetic). No more white smoke and as Dave and I chattered about no clutch slip either. It also costs the same amount at $30-40. Change oil and oil filter every 6 months or 5000km's which ever comes first.

    OK Natas - a bit of good thinking about the different oils and perhaps that it may need the oil changed.

    I am running Dura-blend 10w- 40 in my SV. All good so far.. done about 1500k so far since I put it in, no change in the clutch here either. It is good that it comes in 5L container - means I get 2 changes out of one container at $17.50 a go ..
