Which one would you prefer??? New bikes just seem to be getting so ugly and sharp in design, perhaps its just me but the older style (late 80's and 90's) are such better looking bikes with character...new bikes are so simular in design, they nearly all over next to no fairings or "bulk"at the rear of the bike and **** loads of bulk at the front compared to older bikes that flow better in design...like I say, might just be me.

I'm definitely with you, on that one. As far as I can remember, things came unstuck when the original R1 came out. Granted, it was a beautiful bike, but after that point, designers started to 'weird stuff up', just to make a design different from the rest of the crowd. This years R1....forget it. What an overly complicated, butt ugly bike. Give me the time when form followed function, any day.

The newer designs do look a bit sterile.
Late model cars are nearly all looking the same too. I have trouble identifying a lot of cars these days. One trend I don't like is the way they try to make the front ends look like faces, ugly ones at that.
It mat be that aerodynamics and fuel efficiency dictate the rounded shapes but at least they could get a decent stylist to give them a pleasant appearance.

Was reading an article about soft roaders, how the stylist think that making them look squarish and chunky give people the impression that they better off road. Late model X-trails come to mind as being ugly. Oops - Hope you guys don't own one.

I like the fine bike tails better than the old boxy tails, but in the other end I really like the intemporality of the round headlights compared to the newer agressive headlights.

But the new CBRs aren't that bad. The old ones are cool since they were more "racer" and for the oldschool factor, but the design of the new ones is somewhat more refined, I can't say I like the old ones or the new ones better.
What I hate though, is the Kawasaki styling with ultra agressives lines (the worst being the Z1000).

Ducati makes great looking sport bikes (especially the panigale), with refined, simple and sensual lines. And their headlights are a bit small and low for my taste but have a real signature at least.

And I wouldn't say that bikes nowadays are more similar than before. Our pocket rocket 250CCs all look more or less the same (CBR,FZR, ZXR, GSXR).

I study in product design and touched a bit of transport design in my student exhange and these transports guys are geeks formated to sketch all day long and copy Ferraris and such, they are not so much about innovation or research of a pure and well ageing shape, they are just looking to reproduce the current trends and add dynamism, they all dreaam about making show cars and couldn't care less about making a good looking yaris or a CBF500. That's why I dropped the idea of going in transport design, although I try to make some car related stuff for myself and my portfolio.
