    Just be careful on eBay too. There are a lot of sellers that are just reselling something that they bought from China but customers think that they are getting something good because they are buying from the US. Some of them even use the same graphic that you can find on the Chinese advertisement. It is possible to get good products from China, but like everywhere you have to pay for the quality. Here is an exception to the rule, I bought an engine stand from http://www.sylvanauto.com/Products/EG0104.html and they just blew me away, very professional, very low price, very good product and a pleasure to deal with.

    For those of us old enough to remember, this very situation once existed with products from Japan ????? Today we rely on the quality and standard of all products from Japan.
    Few more years down the track and the same will apply to products from China........won't be based purely on price. my 2 cents worth.

    Exactly Phil. But there is one big difference. The Japanese are beyond hopeless at marketing. Try to buy anything from Japan, it is like they don't want your money. The Chinese won't make that mistake. Well I guess you only have to look at Alibaba. Where is the Japanese Alibaba for small and medium B2B? There never has been and there never will be.

    I'm only planning on keeping the bike untill I get my opens but it is my daily commute. Is DID a decent brand?

    Just ordered one of the $16 dollar ones. Will probably take a month before it turns up though.

    Never seen a split hyvo chain. I think it is a pull the crankshaft job.
    Does the factory service manual give a method to determine wear limit?
    Also I think most DID chains have the DID stamped on every link.

    I have heard some of them are 1 piece from the factory and require the cases to be split to fit them. I cant recall who told me, but I belive there is a member here who ground some excess metal off near the lower cam chain sprocket so a 1 piece chain can be fitted without splitting the cases. Im not 100% on it as it happened a few years ago

    You would hope so. Given that the cam chain is driven at one end of the crank it would be handy if you could do that. But really I have no idea so just ignore me :)

    Will have a look through the manuals and see what they say. I'm not splitting the case. I'll get another cam chain that has a link.

    I have a vague recollection that the owner only shaved a few mm off the case to allow the cam chain to go on. Its wasnt major surgery

    I think he probably shaved back the guide that's near the crankshaft gear as it hugs the chain pretty closely, i dont think that you will fit a unbroken chain over the gear unless you shave it a little.

    One would expect that the guides would need replacing long before the chain. Those Hyvo chains have a very long life and it is not like compressing the valve springs on the 250 would be hard work.

    nah there is a solid metal tab thing that follows the curve of the gear on the crankshaft, its real snug with the chain so not much room to put a chain over the sprocket, thats the only thing i can think of that would cause headaches.

    surely its possible to get a cam chain on without having to split the cases, although i have also heard from my mechanic that to get an unbroken chain on these you have to split the cases.

    Couldn't agree more. The only difference you'll find is the sprocket location for the cam chain is on the side of the engine rather than central as on the FZR. One point to remember is how many links between the inlet cam and the exhaust cam....something I forgot to check and caused me issues. Eventually resolved but a leak down test forced me to remove the head to do the valves as massive carbon build up needed removal. In closing......certainly no need to split the case.
