    Hi Chuck
Welcome to the forum. Love your work on the engine casing, mind blowing how well that has come up.:thumb_ups:
As for your comment re.cam chain and tensioner, here is my 2 cents worth.
The Jap engineers put together a great engine that revs like there's no tomorrow, you need only to have a look at the tacho to comprehend the work these components are doing. Should your tensioner and cam chain and the 2 plastic guides be in good order, feel certain you'll have no problems with the bike.
I would try it first before going any further. Good luck with project :thumb_ups:

Gave the pistons and rings a clean and ran a set of feeler gauges around the ring groves and also checked ring gap in cylinder bores, all tolerances came up just a fraction over the standard manual measurement. Bores are clean, but will show them to a pro to see if a slight hone will be required. One fault I did find was the second rings were installed upside down, weather the motor was ran like that or someone pulled them when it was disassembled I do not know? Really dirty exhaust ports possibly from waste oil through the no# 1 ring could mean it may have been ran, but this is just a thought.

To the Staff and Contributing Members, I appreciate the availability of manuals and tech info on the site, being an old school rider information on-hand via laptop or phone is priceless, I thank you all.

i think he was just worried if it was a normal thing for the zxr's, which it isnt.

you can get a manual tensioner if you want mate but honestly just replace the automatic tensioner every 5-10000 k's and it will be fine, my cam chain has 30000 on it and is still good but i am on my 3rd tensioner, i also have the scraping on my rocker cover from the cam chain.

Thanks for input into the cam chain question guy's, was only thinking of the rocker box modification in-case at some stage the tensioning system was to fail hundreds of km's from home I wouldn't be able to limp home without scraping alloy partials into the oil system. There is a complete new OEM chain and tensioning system in my new parts box for install when i get up to that stage.

Another question for you all ?

Has anyone tried swapping the piston pin snap for matching size cerclips ?

As far as the rocker box modification, I will go and see the TIG guru the taught me to TIG and get his opinion on the modification and distortion control during the task, he is old school Kawasaki Z900 crew, his thoughts will be wise! (I would refer to him as Yoda, but he's not that old).

I would be quite happy if the 'resurrection' had this note on the exhaust!

lol, we live in a very performance addicted neighbourhood, running around on the zxr @ 8 - 10k would be less noise than the other bikes and v8's and off - roaders. The only oldies here wish they were young enough to play as well ! :drinks:
