Well, now im addicted, so here i am, i had another thread with a GSX250f that me and my workmate were fixing up, but that went south, so i IMMEDIATELY went and got my own, 100% mine, that a woman cant interfere with, Bike! The CNR250RR's really appealed to me, and i saw a couple of good looking, reasonably priced ones, one was a non runner with no plates, the other was a runner but a bit too expensive. i figure, you gotta have a fixer upper to really appreciate the vehicle. so i went with the cheaper bike that wasn;t reggoed, turns out to be the tidier of the two lol. So i show up to the blokes house last night and start ripping the fairings off because apparently its just an electrical issue that the bike isnt working, we wasted about 3 hrs the finally found the main fuse had popped after some thieves jimmyed up some wireing to steal the bike, they must have shorted to the chassis at some point and dumped the bike. anyway, i reconnected the loom, used the spare fuse, then started the bike with some security batteries i had as the old battery is showing 4v a bit of turning over and some choke later, got the bike going! and the ran outta fuel on the way home as the thieves had busted the fuelcap lock barrel and siphoned all the gas, GOOD THING there is a reserve tank! so now she sits at my house, awaiting fuel and TLC! (and new tyres, and battery!) A few cracked fairing mounts and a couple of missing blots, but everything else is there! SOOO, next day after work, i start digging in to see what im in for, and there are a couple of concerns i need wisdom from you all about in reguards to re-registering the bike, but first, photos and comments on the issues at hand: Carbs, the are looking a little dirty, now i don't want to rip into them yet in case i rip diaphrams or break gaskets, i will wait till i have a carb rebuild kit till i do this. now i figure how the bike was running this after noon was because i was pretty much out of gas but not sure, bogging down at 6k and 10k, here's a vid i am thinking, bad fuel (Its a couple of months old, dirty carbs, bad spark plugs, and/or bad leads. on the ride home it was firing on all 4 so i can rule out the coils. i am going to be collecting leads and plugs and some carb cleaner additive as a temporary fix (Any recommendations on carb cleaner additive?) And no sunlight throught the filter, so will need a new one of those My current battery lol, will get a battery tomorrow. the 7Ah security batteries are great if yo dont have a bike battery on hand, enough CCA's to crank the starter fast enough to start the bike! (We did this with the GSX haha) The main fuse The Lack of key barrel..... new cap with barrel and key on its way! Rear Strut, will this be ok you guys reckon? felt ok on the ride? The tyres that need replaced And the lovely juices that flow through her veins... (puke) no wonder brakes felt crap! And finally, the most concerning of them all, the front of the chassis its hard to see, but that the pint on the lock for the ignition lock poking out with nowhere to go, the thieves have cut off whatever that went into, to move the handle bars, will i pass inspection without this, or am i going to need to get someone to tig weld a nut or something there for it to lock? not really sure So there's my New project! a big 'To do' List, pretty much needs the whole shabang, but she is running well, so i will try fresh oil and fresh fuel first before i start doing carp rebuilds and replacing spark leads (that were put in absoluty horrbile locations might i add!). she seemed to be running right on the way home, nothing strange other than running outta fuel! I plan on getting new 'Around town' Fairings, and keeping the black ones for when i go on the track (When i do) but will mainly be a daily for the little trips i dont need the fj for Thats it for now folks! keep an eye out for updates! Cheers Hamz
Hey, you've done well! Nice find. Bike sounds pretty good.... just get those other nigglies fixed and your on your way
Score, locks sets, fairings, battery etc can be sourced from xcitebikes.com.au @XCite Bikes , oil and air filters from @Grasshopper, aka Andy's bike bits, and carb kits from @maelstrom aka LiteTek.co When you do the oil, make sure you swap out your plugs as well. You will love these bikes, great score mate.
Haha all the info i need! I will give the fairings a miss for now as they are on the expensive side. Just wanna get plates on the bike first And ride! Like i mentioned before, my main concern is the ignition lock. The pin comes out and goes into nothing. And yes, a very fun and sexy bike!
If u have a Bursons nearby get some off their branded brake fluid ..... its blue and great to see whats happening with the fluid. Brake fluid should be changed every couple of years and yours looks ordinary http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/hey-mum-i-bought-a-hyo.2542/page-3#post-27715
yeah i'm just going to flush it front and rear, brake fluid is cheap and easy as to do (Espesially on bikes!), is that stuff a additave to clear the old shizz out?
Good pick up. I don't know if the steering lock is a rego fail, but I would just present the bike for inspection and say nothing unless the examiner mentions it.
Listen to Dr. Murdo! Do tell them what work you have done though if it comes up in conversation. My fizzer got a blueslip with no fairings / broken screen. Did mention that I had changed the filters and fluids.
nice find mate!! looks like all easy enough fixes. from putting things over the pits here on a few occasions, i'd go with make it look clean and tidy and you should have no dramas!
Yes @Moo if you have time some day i may get you to cast an eye over her. But tidy i can do! Will be gathering fluids, battery and plugs this arvo. @kiffsta what way do you go in to get the leads and plugs out? I didnt get too far on the cibby last night. Any extra info would be greatly appreciated
Undo the lower farings, then under the radiator, pull the clip out and the radiator will swing forward and give you room to get at the plugs
OK, first up, big Upps to @kiffsta, Going through the rad for the spark plugs was the golden ticket! so there i was, heading home afterwork with a plan in my head, i went and picked up: - Fresh oil (10w40 semi synthetic) - Brake fluid - Brake fluid flush kit - coolant - engine flush - wire brush set - New Battery - New Spark plugs - 5L Fuel can with SOME 95 ULP and proceeded to attack the bike (Haven't thought of a name for her yet, it will come!) Started off with puttting in the new battery, perfect fit! Checked bik was charging too, looks like regulator is doing its job still Nasty old brake fluid coming through, new fluid in the glass. Mand, what a huge differance in the brakes! i flushed and bled them all and brakes are twice as good now! insane! then had a quick look, found No.1 Cyl wasnt doing much So warmed her up and pumped oil and coolant, was wondering why there was hardly any coolant!? there was a hole in the bucket, now i have antifreeze on the concrete! yay soo fun..... looking a little old but not too bad, oil come out, didnt look too bad at first, but the engine flush flushed out alot of crap, so was a nice brown lol! The took the Rad off for the first time, wow, took the better part of 30 mins to get the right side hose off, but worth it! then pulled the leads out, then the plugs and tested them all with their respective leads on the block, all sparking, but not much, No.1 had a dead bee in it.... i dont know why...... plugs were pretty shot id say. gaps were set to about 0.6mm, but service manual says 0.8-0.9, could have effected it? clearances sent on new plugs, put them in, rad back in, new oil, filled up rad. Turned he over, and pla pla pla dead..... choke all the way in, crank her and pla pla pla bob bob bob bob, only sitting at 2krpm, CRAP what have i done!!!! if i got the leads round the wrong way I'm going to have to pull the bastard apart again! NOOOO, wait... looking in the fuel tank, ooops no fuel hahaha, so put more gas in, the gas i put in before must have gone straight to the reserve, as i used the reserve to ride home the other night when i picked up the bike. so more fuel, startes up on pop, running mostly smooth! Sprayed degrease over the headders again and they all dried up the same! WIN topped up coolant, ah crap i didnt clean out the overflow bottle.... maybe tomorrow. then took her for a spin down the road. full throttle and motor bounces at 5k then boggs at 6-8k, hmmm, i was reading earlier today about optical sensors going faulty on the speedo that would limit the speed by limiting the revs, bypass this at the cdi with a 3k3 resistor, well i had 1k, 4k7, and 10k2 resistors, so bunched up 3 10k2 resistors, and chopped the orange/blue and soldered the resistors on to that and the Black/white. took for another ride up the road and HEY presto! no more bouncing, but still big flat spot at 6-8k, will need to adjust mixture screws and run some of the green crap though the carbies. But man, already the bike has transformed, that acceleration is terrifying, compared to what I'm used to, blows the gsx out of the water! (But i still love the across ) She was already pretty tidy, but she is feeling ALOT healthier now! Now new pads, oil filter and air filter on their way just need tyres now for it to be road legal now i reckon! And a good shot of her, i wanna get this photoshopped, would turn out well i think! Thanks for all the help so far guys! Really really appreciate it, i have been learning butt loads about bikes the last few weeks, and this community has taught me most of it so far, keep it up! Cheers Hamz
Nice work. Change the air and oil filters also. A good ride with hamfisted throttle can help clear out the cobwebs
Yeah but its only been sitting a couple of months? Dosnt smoke at all. When i got it on the road i will go for a good ride. Also relised today there is no fuel sender. As there is no fuel light! No wonder hah!
Good work man! The hole in the bucket reminds me of the only radiator change I've done on a friends car. Got the new one in, dumped 2 gallons of coolant into a 1.4l hyundai before I figured something was up. Just happened to glance around the side of the car and of course the coolant was running down my driveway. There was a pinhole in the original rad, but the real issue was the failing water pump that requires pulling the engine. I gave the beer back and wished them the best.
