Reality is that brakes, suspension and tyres are the 3 best things you can do to any 250 defo should be 1st cap off the rank for any 250 rider, esp if they are looking to track the bike
My tyres are actually really good atm, but yeah I need to do susp and breaks pretty badly. With the susp i am just tossing up if I should get the springs team tiger recommend in the write up or if I should just chuck 15w oil in there and put 3 20cent coins either side and not worry about it. The seals were actually done no longer than 2 months back. Breaks I am gonna go all out, new discs front and rear, braided lines, sintered pads. But Can I ask why you and hamz did the master cylinder??? whats the logic behind that?
suspension comes down to choice and cost really. i'd love to do the internals of mine but i don't have $1000 to spend on it but next time i do seals i may do springs. i'm running a heaver oil thats all for me. larger master cylinder = higher volume of fluid pushed through
Just using lamen's logic her but wouldn't that be a bit like a quick twist throttle? faster to do the job but less accuracy?
Just did some reading due to lack of knowledge. Source: http://www.markwilliams.com/braketech.aspx Its for cars but still the same principle id imagine. From what I gather the his lever will move a shorter distance but require the same force to do the job. It would be personal preference but I might skip that mod.
Spot on mate, its defo a personal preference and for Hamz it just came as part of the package quality is also another thing that is normally taken into account. on my ninja (because of regs) i'm still running stock res, but i have sintered pads, dot 5 fluid and braided lines. rear braided line is for wank factor as i don't use the back brake.......stock pads remain in there. good quality lines, pads and fluid will do fine!
Yeah I will ignore the rear brake mods also *nods*. I think it would see more time in the sun for most riders if it was left thumb activated, I keep seeing quotes of it being used to aid turn in but that must be one hell of an advanced technique.
Haha @Damus i get ya, i wanted to get tyga kit and all that but my fairings are still pretty mint. I got new led tail lights for better viability and the arrow indicator lights for a sleeker look. But @Moo has been helping me alot, hes been in the track scene a while so i thought if i want to have fun then id be wise to listen. yeah the new mastercylinder and pump are slighty larger so as to pump more volume for the same distance. Aswell as the braided lines and the sintered pads that @Grasshopper sold me. And rebuilt forks make a big difference in the frontend. Once i pre-load the forks i can stop REALLY quick. Had a few teething issues with the brakes, i think they still have more grab left in them, need to change fluid again and re-bleed... again... Re the forks, i used 15w and used one 20c coin each side. Im only light (66kg) and front end is about perfect for me, i lucked out with that guess lol. Next im waiting on handlebar mirrors so it'll look more sleek. One of my new mirrors fell apart while riding on the freeway hahaha. It was hilarious for some reason. Ill take a picture and share the hilarity. Its my new helmet holder
Your a good sort hamz ^_^, Moo is no doubt a good person to keep an open ear around. Looking forward to many more updates!!! Do try not to make me too jealous =p.
Well, it had to happen at some point Was riding through a carpark and there are 2 steel sliders on the floor i guess for when it heats up, it was soaking wet, front tyre hit the flat steel surface and just slipped out from under me scrapped left fairing, scrapped knee, scrapped pride Just glad it wasnt with an expensive bike, or at speed. a couple of guys saw it and made sure i was OK. so that was nice. On a positive note, @Moo and myself did the headstem bearings, and it feels alot tighter and more responsive! All ready for next weeks track day!
Must have been hell slippery surface. I dunno I like the whole tease Dunlop tyres game. I'd be pissed off at the car park let me tell you.
That's no good hamz glad you are ok. You really need to be on the ball even low speed in the wet. Especially car parks as oil ends up everywhere and stupid metal grates. I actually powerslid my zxr250 in the wet as I overtook someone on the hwy. Combination of water white line and oil. It wad pretty scary I was doing about 90km/h. And slid the whole way round the car lol. Woulda looked pretty boss though
