2KR do not use BDS carbs so different diaphragms How about the English company whose name I forgot, NRP or something like that. It is going to cost though.
This spec sheet say's the 2KR run's a Mikuni BDS26 here http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_fzr_250_1988.php
Really? What model carb do i have then? I have the Japanese manual for the bike, written in Japanese, and on it, it has a code "4DV1", but this is the jet needle number, and no other code i can decipher. I thought i did read somewhere that this bike had Mikuni BDS26 carb. ?????
@maelstrom , I actually read it on the Japanese manual i have. The manual is in Japanese, and it is for the first of the FZR250 series. Chapter 2 quotes the carb as a BDS26. I can upload this chapter, or even the whole manual if @GreyImport wants it.
Sorry, Slugger I may have my nomenclature wrong there. In any case the 2KR series carbs are not the same as the 3LN1 to 3LN7 which use BDST carbs. The diaphragm assembly that Mr Grey linked to looks to be the correct one for you. Have to hope that the slide cutaway is the same or that the rubber is removable.
Thanks. Do you mean the link for the Hyosung Diaphram that Mr Grey linked to? Part number 13338HG5100 ?
Had a look on this site. Seems they have diaphragms, but they are loose. They do not come with the slide. Is this hard to pull apart, to take the old diaphragm off the slide, and fit the new one? Has anybody done this? are there any special tools or hints in doing this?
this is from a 3LN BDST28 .... its of course different but yours would just be sitting in the groove and should come out with a little gentle persuasion....hold it with thumb and finger either side from the centre and slowly stretch it outwards to start it off
So, pull out the rubber diaphragm from the shaft? What about the plastic (orange-ish) ring? The one in your picture looks like it has a break in it. It looks like mine doesn't have any breaks and is solid all the way around and looks like it is clamped on to the shaft. And another idea.. If the Hyosung diaphragm is the same size (refer earlier post from @maelstrom ), then it might be cheaper to buy the Hyosung one at $40 and take that one off and put on mine, rather than the one from NRP at 39 Pounds Sterling (about AUD$80) from NHP. ?
I cant really tell if yours is held in by the orange plastic part .... that clip on mine is loose and comes off very easily The Hyo part sounds the cheaper option but then if the slide is different will it come apart to swap with yours? ..... it may be pressed together as u say and may explain why its sold as a set Does yours look like this on the other side? .... does your slide look like this?
Yep, something like that.. It's the top part that worries me.. That orange plastic thing doesnt have a break in it at all..
Put the tip of your thumb here on 1 side and your finger on the other side and grip it as close as possible to the inner ring and see if it will stretch out of the groove
Ahhhh, no. It is on tight, and there doesn't seem to be any elasticity when i pull on it. I didn't want to pull too hard in case i rip the thing. But, on the NRP SITE, IT HAS THIS QUOTE: "Mikuni BDS26 carbs. *Diaphragm is 62mm OD*, and has a hole for the jet located in the tab on outer edge of the diaphragm [in the carb top]. Loose diaphargm supplied for self-fitment. Uses the same system as the original diaphragm, do NOT cut the plastic rings. Hints and tips sent with order. Viton FKM rubber, not affected by Ethanol in modern fuel. Sold each"
Well, i have made the sacrifice !!!!!! I have ordered a loose diaphragm from NRP today. Bloody expensive. I only ordered one, so this will go down to "research costs". Anyway, knowledge costs money i say, so i hope my investment will be worth it. I will now wait until it comes, and see how it all works. Hopefully i can post good news soon which might be helpful for others in the future. (these carbs are costing a fortune....)
Thanks for the link to this thread Grey. Slugger! I tried to buy 4 of those but got no answer from the seller. Did anyone try to fit the 1993 Yamaha XJ600SE Seca II carb diaphragms?? I saw they use Mikuni. BDS26. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1993/SECA II - XJ600SE/CARBURETOR/parts.html Can anyone confirm this? I want to buy them and complete my carbs, the last thing i need. This is the part number 3BG-14940-00-00
