Started Scarlet and confirmed a flooding issue with her carb. Swapped the handlebar on Sylvie for less badly bent one and re-glued the left heated grip on with J B Weld.
So .. last night I put in new seals and piston kit for front brake top master Cylinder and today my old Rs gets some new tyres ... been waiting so long for these Dunlop D404's front and back ... gotta be better than the originals on her so that's it for me Cheers Dee Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I decided to drain all the old fuel from the Across and fire it up so I can then start putting it back together so I can sell it... There was a bit of an issue with the fuel pump running intermittently while draining the fuel... and then nothing... fuel ppump will not run at all... grrrrr Grab the test lamp... yep power from the relay to the pump but it is a no go... I am really starting to dislike this Across... Now to figure if I buy a fuel pump and sell it or just sell it as is and cut my losses...
Failed to track down some valve shims for the ZXR today. Everyone has the 7.48mm kits but no one has the weird 7.9 or 8mm that the ZXR uses. Have put in an order with http://www.precisionshims.com.au/
Submerge the fuel pick up end in your ultrasonic cleaner and try vibrating the crap out of it ? Or reverse flushing it
The 7.48mm will fit but they are about 0.5mm smaller and move around a bit. Not sure if this will cause any issues?

Seems everyone just uses the 7.48mm? I'll see what the quote from precision shims come back as and that may be the decider. Unfortunately no motorbike shops open in Toowoomba on Sunday so won't be getting shims tomorrow anyway.
When I did my clearances at work, I measured the existing shims at 7.48mm, so that's what I replaced them with. They fit fine and weren't loose. Half a mm on either side would make them a loose fit. With the riding I do, I should have dropped a valve by now if the shims were the wrong size. My best guess is that for some reason, the shim diameter was changed at some point. Maybe the Malaysian models use 7.48mm and the Japanese ones are different. Another 250cc grey import mystery...
It would be good to confirm. I'll measure with the vernier calipers tomorrow and post a pic just for future reference.
It could also be a A/C model difference. As usual, bitsa's will confuse the situation. Anyone know of differences between the A and C model heads? Can they be interchanged? Whatever the case is, use the correct shims for what you have.
So, thus was a few days strung together. I decided to get the vtr ready for roadworthy, registration and sell. It wasn't running right, so off with the carbies for a clean - the pilot screw is a unique screw/socket drive, so that was left alone. Did a late night Thursday assembling it, the tail fairing was in 3 pieces so I sewed it together with cable ties; I'm going for a scarface theme with a bandaid sticker for the tank, too Friday morning upholstering the seat (terrible job) and at the last moment, I tried to start it. No go. No roadworthy. Yesterday I pulled the plugs out spayed lubex in the cylinders. Finally it came to life. Now to test ride. Engine and gearbox work fine, accelerates well, stopping had issues. The rear needs bleeding and the front rotor is bent - maybe @kiffsta has a rotor off a cbr? Oh well.
On a good note, I connected a battery to the ZXR and fired start away! I'll register it after I sell the vtr. My precious... Who needs a tyre, too. Oh, and @Andych did you try turning the key off and on again? I think they have a timer and the earth is through the CDI. But I might be wrong.
Yep... I realised there was a timer as it worked sporadically when draining the fuel... but it was getting slower and slower.. and not due to battery drain either... so another fuel pump is on the way from Motorecycle... If @kiffsta doesnt have a front rotor I do.. Let me know.
I have the 7.9mm shims in my bike & was recommended by Precision to get the 8mm shims,but i have seen both sizes in C models, not too sure about the A model shim size.
Still awaiting the new bullet connectors I ordered a week ago to get the CB250RSD finally sorted so I can get it registered on the road. Confirmed that the stator on the GL400 is shot, knackered and banjaxed, one of the outputs is 0V, two others are 30V, I'm not replacing that in the back garden so it's back to the shop for that job....
Today I put some metal flywire in front of the radiator on my new Chinese bike, and while there I thought I would adjust the horn pitch for better sound. When I took it off to get at the small screw on the back that adjusts the travel of the electro magnet I found the 'Chinglish' warning. So when I stopped laughing I left the big nuts alone and turned the screw 'husky'.
