Received SW motech racks and givi side cases for the 919. Took the gamble on a basically unknown forum users post but still got what I was after! Seller must own their own business, had a tracking label within 20 minutes of paypalling them.
My zxr250a mantis is laid up with an electrical issue , I took it for a ride last weekend and it just cut out and my temp gauge went off the scale by a fair way, I wiggled the harness near the relay box and my temp went back down and it started , I decided it was safer to head home than temp fate , 3 more breakdowns before I made it home . I have found a spare harness and relay box which is coming to me next week. So today I figured it was time to reassemble the c model I have in the shop , I actually got this c model running for a lady about 3 years ago , her husband took another 2 years to paint the bike so when it came time to start it up , the carbs were a mess and she eventually traded it at a local shop on a ninja 300. I bought a big job lot of bikes from this shop and included was this ZXR. It was in a wee state , all fairings , tank, seat , carbs off , I replaced the plugs , stripped and cleaned the carbs , refitted the radiator and filled the coolant and it started up and sounds like a really nice motor , I am very stoked . I am missing airbox seals and a carb return spring , so @Frankster is sending me his spare seals and I’m sure I have the spring at work , this one will be up for sale once it is back together.
Started taking the ZXR back to carbies today- ran out of time to race it fuel injected. Trying to put the coils back in and can’t figure out how they bolt down. Is this a coil spacer? It wasn’t in the coil bag and none of my videos clearly show… killing me here.
Finally off the crutches, so decided to hobble out to the shed and start putting the Bandit back together. My 'Carer' helped me get it onto the work platform. This bike had a 'way too big' rear tyre on it that had bashed itself against the chain and become severely damaged. Which, was a real shame as it was within age and had plenty of tread to get through a VIC RWC. The front tyre wasn't great, so off to Pablos Tyres for some new rubber. After a 'wow' moment when the tyre technician confirmed the rear tyre was indeed over sized and dangerous, he set about putting a set of Diablo Rosso II's onto the rims. These sat in the corner while I sorted the carbs out and waited for some bits and pieces. Fast forward a month or so and it's Lockdown 5.0 in VIC and I can finally get off the couch. It's slow going, but keeping me busy. A few more bits and pieces and it should be ready for a RWC once lockdown is lifted.
hahaha so that’s the problem. I looked at that same diagram and can’t tell If these are that part because they weren’t in the correct bag lol
Well, they fit. Good enough! Back of the bike is together! Carbs getting rejetted tomorrow- jetting then for morning, carrying afternoon jets with me.
Used a tip I picked up from Millyard today! YSR carbs (working on 2) have been driving me nucking futs. New bowl gasket didn't clear up the leak around the bowl. Hit the bowl with some heat and pulled the vent out. hit it with 320 grit on a piece of glass until it came out flat. Hit the bowl with heat and reinserted the vent. Did this while waiting on gasket remover to do it's thing (on the mc22) and haven't gotten back to seeing if that bastard carb will actually hold gas.
Thought I'd try to get a bit more done in the garage since I was making good progress this morning. tool case decided to part ways with the top half as it slid off of a box and dumped 1/3 of the sockets on to the floor and all of the loose spares I keep in it. I'd be mad but I spent $25 on that tool kit 20 years ago, back when Stanley was a somewhat quality tool company..
Did some work on the other bike today. 2007 ZX10R. Did oil n oil filter 2 days ago, cleaned and oiled DNA air filter and replaced today, flushed rear brake fluid and gave the caliper a clean. Checked header bolts were still tight, havnt checked em since install. General inspection revealed a little coolant getting past some hoses, got new Samco hoses on order. Might start a thread on the ZX10 build from start if you guys are interested. Done a bit to it. Needed to get the kawasaki done so i can get the MC19 up on the lift and do a bit. Carbys flush, front brake line flush, bit of general inspection while im there.
Okay, almost finished the GSF250V build. I had it all running nicely and even tested it with the tank on before getting help to get it off the work platform. I was going to fit all the external bits, but thought I'd leave it just in case something went haywire and I needed to pull bits off. It must have been a Murphy's Law premonition as the bike decided to chuck a wobbly just as I was about to take it for a spin around the block. Started and ran okay in the yard. And then just as I was about to ride off, the revs decided to do their own thing. And, I mean REALLY do their own thing. Not 3 or 4,000rpm, the bike jumped from idle to 10,000 without any throttle. I instantly turned it off and had a bit of a look around to see if everything was where it was meant to be. The engine was hot, so I'm not too worried about any damage etc. I then grimaced and started the bike again. To my surprise she went straight to idle and returned there after a few blips of the throttle. Taking a punt, I put her in gear and was just about to let the clutch out and she did it again. There's obviously an air leak somewhere that I'll have to find before attempting another ride, but as my 'carer' had already helped me load the NT400 onto the work platform, I think I'll leave it until I get back from TAS. I'll pull the tank off and check the petcock and vacuum hose etc. Everything else should be fine. A couple of pics before she went under a cover for a while. @Murdo did the tank for me...nice. Even my wife commented on how nice the bike looks.
I feel your pain. A couple of years ago one of my kids opened too many drawers on one of my rolling tool chests and the whole thing fell over and dumped it’s contents all over the floor. I couldn’t be angry because the child in question had the good sense to get out of the way and wasn’t crushed.
Nah, it happened in Neutral too. I left the side covers off the bike so I could see and get to the carbs etc if anything weird happened. It will be an air leak, unless these Mikuni carbs are possessed! Thanks for the thought Shane.
Hmmm, I loaded up my ZXR250A Mantis into the van and took it to work. It had suffered an electrical fault on a previous ride so it was time for some running repairs, I had traced the error to either the harness or the relay box as when I wiggeled them, the bike either ran or failed. I tracked down a used harness and it was beyond butchered, so I found another is in much better nick along with a relay box, today I installed it and went to start the bike, same bloody issue... I wiggeled the relay box and it came good and ran, what are the chances of the same issue on 2 different harnesses and relay boxes ? After much complaining, whining, bitching, I accidentally bumped the earth wire from the harness going to the battery and it popped out of the bullet connector.... minus the connector. Stupid broken wire, guess who is a muppet who changed a whole harness and relay box for a broken earth wire. This guy
