Seals and dust covers arrived so I have rebuilt the forks on the GSX, put bearings and spacers back in wheels and put the brake rotor on and rear sprocket, put the forks on the bike and put the handlebars on (this was too boost morale, it makes it look like a bike again) Now its frickin hot in the garage so its beer time Suspension & Tyres should be here on Monday
Picked up a 1980 cb250rs on Saturday , 99% complete , just missing the rocker cover , this will be a fun one to rescue
One of my customers bought a gt380 , it was his dream bike as a teenager and finally has one , it was a bit of a state a so he stripped it , and then realised this was going to be beyond his level of experience after continued cries for help, I finally relented and said I would assemble it , cue a Trailer with a painted frame , rebuilt motor with the top end off, freshly laced wheels and several boxes of parts in varying states of ...: corrosion at any rate Phil and I started on it yesterday , and she is now a roller with the rebuilt motor fitted. I have been given creative control , the only provisio is that it has to be red and sound as good as mine.
I just had to put the wheels on today! Im sure they will be coming off again at some point but what the hell
Yes sir , went on a fun ride today with the vjmc, it was touted as a tidler ride , with a 350cc max capacity , but the 380 needed a run , and it played up a bit but I managed to get it home Some very cool smaller capacity bikes showed up including a mvx250 , rd350lc, cbr250rr , rd200 , t250, xv250, The route was around the Redlands which I where I live , met some members whom I hadn’t seen before . Our muster point was the Redland bay hotel, managed to get a few schooners in upon our return at 10:30am Great day out, it is not often you go on a ride with 2 and 4 strokes with 1,2,3 and 4 cylinder bikes
At 45 C inside the Garage even with my big mother fan on (the temp sensor is on the wall behind the fan where it is coolest) I am not getting a lot done... removed the correct rear wheel from the SL125 so I can remove the tyre and see if the rim is worth saving. Front and rear currently are DID rims and the front is salvageable.. hopefully the rear is as well.. I will get them blasted and Cerakoted in a brushed alloy finish... if it is OK. This works out much cheaper than Thai replacements. Not sure on Powdercoating.. I should price that up too. I also finally put up a shelf to sit my laptop and docking station on... it is safe and out of the way now. Just cooling off for a bit before heading back to cut a heap of spokes... Now this is a big fan.... moves some serious air...
Rebuilt the carbs in 40 degrees heat - really happy with the results, I got a quote of a carb guy and he wanted $600 for a rebuild!! thats more than I paid for the bike Ha ha ha I think I will still spend a little more time cleaning them but for now its f&*k working and chill with a beer Before After
Looking really good there... you must have the patience of a saint to clean things to that degree... lol Have you thought about some Wrinkle finish paint for the caps? It is a little expensive but the finish is really nice. https://www.vhtpaint.com/high-heat/vht-wrinkle-plus-coatings
I used wrinkle black on the gauge surround, using etch primer on raw aluminium, then the wrinkle coat
Mates gt380 is coming along nicely , time to put a sheet over it while we wait for parts to arrive from overseas and the chrome and paint to be done
My first attempt at gauge restoration for my Mates gt380 , he has misplaced his clocks and found a set at old gold motorcycles for $300 plud freight, when I opened them, I was like... hmmmm these are rough First job was to strip them down, the mounting plate paint was horrible so it went into the dry blaster to clean it up. A mate of mine put me onto this stuff called Farelca polishing paste, he used it to brighten dull headlights and I used it to clean up an OEM windscreen. it is bloody awesome stuff. I just used a cheap polisher with a soft pad to wear away the gauge faces. Some nupty had spray painted the gauges many times so I used some paint stripper for 90 secs then washed it off, I managed to get it back to a nice clean state hey Look, we can see the gauges now I tested all the bulbs while it was apart and then set about putting them back together They are by no means perfect, but these clocks are super hard to get, even on the Jap auctions , there are sets rougher than these for $700 About 2 hours effort, at least these will allow him to get on the road.
I spent a few nights this week stripping rims of tyres and spokes and then cleaning up so I could get them blasted and coated (either Cerakote or Powder) and while the 21" front came up nicely.. the 18" rear has some pretty deep rust and no matter how much it is blasted is going to look crap. Cost for blast and Cerakote was $220 the pair minimum.. so I checked Thailand supplies.. meh.. I wasnt overly impressed and then started searching AliExpress and found a nice set of Alloy Rims from AHL that delivered here for $117 inc Grab Snatch & Take, so I pulled the pin and ordered them.. lets see the "quality" when they arrive. They look good in the pics. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32980348760.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.4b314c4dvWDPux
