Come on @ShaneP you need to up your game... another Shane (Van Gisbergen - V8 Supercar Driver) crashed his Mountain bike, full separation break of the collarbone, Surgery the same day and back racing 2 weeks later with undiagnosed cracked ribs as well... Mind you he did have the best surgeon around and spent up to 4 hours a day in a Hyperbaric chamber... so I guess he had a slight advantage...
Researched o-rings for an oil cooler that hasn't been made in a very long time. 2bros is trying to find old tech drawing but so far drawing a blank. When companies say 54mmx58mmx2mm, how close are the tolerances? I need 2 orings, with a thickness of 1.5mm and are 'oddball' here as far as I can tell. ID/OD for each are 55/60 and 54/58 (as measured by super cheap calipers, 54.99/60mm and 53.8/58.54mm) Not so worried about ID/OD, as long as the thickness is within spec. Both mate to a flat surface, measuring the surface milled out for the oring comes out to 1.5-1.52mm. Found 1 match for each on mcmaster carr, both say 2mm thickness on the technical drawing but I trust technical drawings about as far as I can throw them (before you wad them up). @maelstrom any wizardry to share in this arena?
I rode the pushbike out, and drove myself to the hospital. But took the advice of resting it... For a while. @jmw76 ouch! The truth hurts. :-( On the topic, got the carbies on the VTR and started the bike. It was a bit spluttery, but I noticed the neutral light flickering, suspected the reg/rec, but unplugged the stator and still flickered. Messed around with the sender, got worse, then just took the one out of the other bike. Still not great, but runs. I also did a bit of shuffling around of bikes. I took the CBR 400 off the workramp. I don't think it was happy about it... Amid the "common folk." Next is to clean up the shed. A little bit. Maybe.
Hey guys hope your Easter went well, been knuckling down a bit of late, finished off one of my Mc22’s (white) ready for sale, then I finally started on my zxr, after a few hours and choice words couldn’t get it to run, so I hit up @kiffsta for some advice and had another go the following day, when it sprung to life I couldn’t be more happy! The plan was to fix this up and move it on then out of nowhere a guy who bought some spares off me contacted me and said he was over his projects and do I want them, we agreed on a price and now again I have way to many bikes I can’t move, but is what it is! Tryin to revive and tidy up some bikes to move on so I can have the funds to do a full resto on the rvf
I was invited to visit @James Mclaren storage lockers to see some of his bikes , Wow what a stash of Japanese goodness , I am now the proud owner a zxr250a with a full set of Chinese fairings. I should have bought a mc22 as well, but am watching my pennies , plus will need some $$$ to sort the zxr out bike is mostly complete and has good compression , missing lock set , infill panel , master cylinder , brakes and rad , James is hoping he can find these bits . I have taken this one home , I have plans to do it slow and steady and get her back to a nice original looking a model in my spare time
Really happy it’s off to a good home, and I’m sure I have those parts in there somewhere. When you start the project I bet I jump off my 22s and back on the zx to see what I can learn! But as for tomorrow I think I’ll strip that mc not sure yet, but yeah happy to have you there and see what I got, and now I have another in my corner to say I don’t have a collection addiction lol
Well I'm happy to say that my project MC19 Track bike is alive! After fitting the new carb boots and installing the freshly serviced carbs and re installing the clutch plates etc etc the old girl fired up for the first time in a LONG LONG time! The bike had been sitting outside a chaps place for a number of years and the wheels proved this as they had a mud line 150 mm up each rim She lives on and surprisingly the engine sounds great !!!!!! Credit to Honda , cool little engines! Drop the engine out of the frame this weekend and give it a good clean up and start the process of making a P6 Rocket
My old Maico came back to visit me today. He has been riding in the veterans enduro series and is currently in first place and has been selected to go to the island of Elba in October to represent Australia in the veterns 4 day enduro. He left the bike with me as he trusts no body else to work on it. Just needed to run a wire from the brake switch to tail light to comply with the international rules (brake light not needed in oz) and give her a good check over.
I know someone was chasing a rear wheel and axle assembly for one of those, if you'd be interested in swapping it for a vfr750 set?

Yesterday I fixed up my trailer but it is less bike-trailer with the cage on the box trailer. I've had this 6x4 box trailer for years, a dump rescue that has travelled up and down the coast, as far north as Cairns and as far south as Warwick, carrying up to 4 bikes at a time! Looking at swapping it for a couple of bikes... Then went to do something with motorbikes, but the mozzies are bad. The VTR is about ready for roadworthy, but thought I'd get the vfr ready as well. Check over the basics, front brake light switch doesn't work, sole the one off the CBR. Taking the VTR and VFR for roadworthy tomorrow. Ordered a couple of parts for CBR, too. As I was doing stuff in the shed, I looked around realised there were a lot of Hondas, especially for a green-blood... The Kwaka is in the container, buried behind the Yamaha and parts of Triumph... Have I changed?
researched o-rings...again. This time I "dug into the details", i.e. opened my eyes a bit and noticed mcmaster has " Metric O-rings are sized to the actual measured inside diameter." Explains why d2 didn't match ID/OD in the range of rings I was looking at. I'm assuming OD is listed in this case for "it fits something with this OD or smaller." So far it looks like I can pick up 25 of 1 size for $9! Can get viton in one size that I need for a much higher cost per but still comperable to OEM pricing. Kicker being that o-ring will rarely be touched as it's the one that seals between the oil cooler itself and the engine. As for saving a few pennies, for the OEM filter cover I can get 25 for the cost of 3 from OEM suppliers. I almost feel bad for it, but I've been raked over the coals enough times for things that you should be able to source elsewhere but some engineer decided they needed an oddball size.
Bearings can be a pain like that, too, having specific needle roller bearings that at OEM only. I was going to comment before, but assumed @maelstrom filled you in, that the thickness of the o-ring isn't the depth of the recess - your measurement was the with of the recess, right? I see you have the dilemma of savings: I can buy one OEM for less than a bunch of aftermarket ones, but the aftermarket ones work out to be far cheaper per unit. I know that struggle
