Fixed mine also, turns out my caliper housing wasn't hitting because it's already been grinded away by a previous rotor. So... Yeah that sucks lol.
Glad I'm not the only one Mac!!! Trick is loosen all pinch, loosen axle bolt, align, tighten the pinch bolts on the side that doesn't have the axle bolt, tighten axle bolt, tighten pinch bolts at axle nut side.
Hmm I do that anyway nothing to do with turning the fork at all I have no marks or lip and just had 2 race meets like this and didn't notice anything
Trust me mc, Matt is right... As much as it gets under my skin being wrong, to learn ego is the enemy. You don't want the "gap". If u pull ur axle out u will notice a line that goes around the axle where the fork should line up with it. If u tighten the pinch bolts on it when it's in-line the u will be good. That one little thing has been causing me problems since I had my bike. I just didn't know it until now. It's actually really lucky that this has been brought to light tbh. Give it another whirl aye?
I had to tighten the LHS pinch bolts first, and then the axle nut. This closed the gap. I wasn't able to do it by hand. Anyone do it this way too? Or am I supposed to be able to move it by hand? Maybe I'm now putting a lot of pressure on the forks? Let us know how you go @Mclaren
Riding home this afternoon from Kiffsta's house (I would fish every day if I lived where you do, JEALOUS) I could hear an intermittent grinding noise coming from the front end. I could not see anything interfering. Checked caliper clearance Checked inner front guard wasn't rubbing on tire wall Even wear on the rotor faces Could it be the pistons are not retracting fully leaving a bit of pad rubbing? I dont know at this stage Im just making up crap haha Just the new pads wearing in ? Any suggestions my knowledgeable people?
Hey....could well be your callipers that need some attention. Kits are not expensive and you'll have peace of mind thereafter.
Agreed mate! Wait till @Phil tells you he has his own pontoon on a Sunshine Coast canal that has Mangrove Jacks inhabiting it. JEALOUS!
@Th3_Huntsman Geez that would be the dream! Still yet to get my first jack. @Murdo Wheel bearings were replaced <1000 kms ago, but I'll have a closer look tomorrow. Hopefully can get it sorted! On another note, I also changed out my rear shock for a better condition used shock. The old shock had the stiffer black spring, and had lost all of its oil, and was all spring at this stage. The new shock has 'blue' springs which I believe is meant to be softer, which is great as I'm only 67kg. Before I could feel every piece of the road even the painted lines! Today I received some metal gear organic pads from @XCite Bikes, thanks for the quick shipping! Very happy to have thrown out the old ebay pads as the thickness was literally double the thickness of what its supposed to be. Caused it to drag on the rear disc constantly!
@Phil Checked this morning where it was making this noise. It is on the Left rotor inner face. I assume it was due to the temporary caliper contact that created a tiny lip, should grind down with time? Also trying to spin the front wheel freely is a little difficult even with proper pads, slight friction from pads. Could this be the combination of new pads and rotors ? Or could it be pistons aren't retracting properly? (note- I haven't rebuilt the calipers, but did give them a good clean before fitting pads) Also wheel bearings are still good
So I haven't made any posts lately, but recently painted my handle bars in satin black, and polished the swing arm for fun. Also got my hands on some repsol fairings. The new look is still growing on me, but definitely beats the old fairings with the paint flaking off and etc. When I get around to it I want to paint the tank and wheels orange to make it look as close to OEM as possible. Soooooo I sold the bike. Got a good price as well I think. And will be picking up a 2005 wr450f with 2 sets of wheels, dirt and road . Stoked to get back to the dirt while still having the option of riding on the black top. Sent from my GT-I9506 using Tapatalk
