She looks great, Bob once again performed his magic.
Hooked up the fuel lines, she fired up nicely. Perhaps a little fine tuning and she'll be ready for rego.
Pretty bloody happy the whole thing has come together. Sure doesn't look like a 20 year old bike.

    Update

So little left to be done,  finishing off always appears to take the longest.
The postie delivered a parcel from Pyramid parts yesterday, so brakes were done.
The old pads still had some meat, bleeding proved to be more challenging.
Several blocked bled nipples were causing issues, once fixed the brakes performed very well!
Bar ends removed and repainted, look good. So whats left.
Trip to mechanic for a roadworthy and on to dept of transport for some rego.
This bike is looking good and I can't wait to get her on the road.

The Suzuki GSF400 is registered!!!!!!

Loaded the bike up this morning for a quick trip to the mechanic, within the hour with roadworthy in hand I headed for dept of transport. Place was packed, but got all the paperwork sorted and pretty soon I was on my way with plate in hand, happy days. By 2pm I had the plate fastened and couldn't wait to hit the road.
First stop, the servo and $20.00 later with a full tank of fuel I was ready for a ride.
Only got 40K's in before had to head home. First impression, this bike performs really well considering it's size.
Compared to a GSX400 that I owned some years ago, performance is excellent. I do need to get in a few more rides but so far, very favourable impression.
Once I get a few more rides in, will keep you posted. It was a very good day.

I took the Bandit for a run tonight, certainly has some go for a smaller bike,  the first big corner i hit I almost fell off, it just wouldnt go around the corner... I thought the headstem bearings were shot or he had a bent fork leg. I gingerly rode it home and thought I should check for headstem movement and the tyre pressures,  headstem was okay so I checked the pressures... the front was at 15psi and the rear at 20psi.
Pumped them up to 35psi and went for another ride...  so much better !!!

IMO, it needs a nice carbon pipe to give her a decent exhaust note  :p

Clocked up around 100K's today, running around getting the feel for my new ride. The cruise down the freeway got me, 6000rpm and I'm doing 100, nearly 7000 to reach 110. Jesus, my previous ride I would be passing 200 at least, just got to get the mind set right. picked up a new tank pad and some bits at the Suzuki dealer.
The brakes are bedding in nicely, getting some feel back. Over a certain rev range she struggles a little, we knew that already. Next week I will take her up the coast and get my mechanic to perform his magic on the carbs and get the balance right.
Need to practise what I preach, Chris took her for a spin and returned un impressed, claiming the headstem bearings were shot. Don't think so, however tire pressures were very low, an easy fix. Not adverse to another pipe, we'll see.
Early days, but my feeling is that this bike will provide some good fun and reliable transport.

Looks great Phil. Hope you get your head around your new toy soon as they are all individuals. Have lots of fun with it and no doubt we will see a new project soon

I don't know how many times I have hopped on a borrowed bike and hit that first corner and started to curse the last person to have ridden it, look for the closest petrol station and put some air in the tyres. When the bike suddenly starts to perform correctly again.

I do regularly check my own bikes tyre pressure but don't carry a pressure gauge with me all the time.

    Hey PD186

I tend to get annoyed with myself as I have a perfectly good and functioning compressor sitting but metres from my bike.
Don't know how many times on this forum have I preached the virtues of regular checks on tire pressures.

Was going to take her for a spin this morning, however the heavens have just opened up, perhaps later.

I am certainly pleased with the way she has turned out, already getting some favorable comments. She might be 20 years old, but don't look it!!    ;)

Just a brief update on the GSF400. Got her registered, easy. However the smell of fuel was a tad on the high side. Turns out had a small crack in the tank on the seam. :BangHead:
Had a chat with Bob, from ace of spays about what to do.
Emptied the tank, a quick wash with hot soapy water followed by a thorough rinse and allow to dry. Bob supplied an anti rust solution that creates the coating for the resin that reseals the tank. Allow 3 to 4 days to reach proper curing and she is ready to go.
Tomorrow we hit the road, with this weather can't find any valid excuse not to.

    Re: 1992 Suzuki GSF400 Bandit

Well haven't covered 200K's yet but so far so good. The bike is much easier to use in traffic as compared to the CBR1100, something to do weight and ease of use.

One issue that concerned me was the rear end skipping around somewhat under heavy braking. Happened twice within a week, second time a closer call.

Upon closer inspection, the rear Dunlop tire appears to have plenty of tread but worn in other areas. Rechecked pressure, fine so tire must be the culprit. Think this tire is a little old as on very close inspection small cracks appear.

Today is Michelin pilot 2 day, this will match up with the front that has at least 75% left.
Will feel better with a new tire on the rear. Have had Michelins prior on the SV650 and couldn't wear them out, hope to have same results this time round.

Definately old if it has cracking......!
All the tyres that came with my 2 Fizzers were crazed even though a couple had a ton of tread.

I have a new Battlax rear waiting to be fitted to the yet to be painted rim....when I compared it to the old one (also off the rim) by pressing on it and bouncing them on the ground it was like one was made of jelly and the other of wood!

For anyone not knowing....theres a manufacture date on tyres on the lower sidewall....

The deed is done, long live the Michelin Pilot2

Think you are correct GreyImport, that Dunlop was old and hard as a rock.
I did not see the date on it. Was hoping to clock up a few K's today and get that new tire scrubbed in, alas the weather found me looking out of the garage, rain.
The mechanic said the steering head needed a little tighten, certainly feels better.

Fitted new grips upon my return, who ever said use hair spray was on the money, worked a treat!

My trusty GSF400 bandit is ready to hit the road, it's been a very good day

    Hey Bob

So far so good, the tank is holding up well, no issues there. The new tyre is doing the same and I'm finding myself pushing a little more each time, feels good!
Got to say that I am enjoying this bike. The riding position is less demanding than my previous bike, couple this with the reduced weight of the bike and it suits me fine.
