Started making a plastic panel to waterproof under the hump today and attach all the electronics to the plate to ground them. The battery had to be ditched for a smaller one but I managed to set out a layout that the cables weren't stretched too far and they were able to be tucked up under the frame hidden out of sight. I've only had to extend two ground cables from the starter motor and the casing, and one starter wire. That's pretty amazing seeing that i moved the electrics panel essentially 60cm up under the seat. And I drilled the reg/rec holes and bolted them in a spot they will get air flow. I've still got some waterproofing to do, but it's a **** load better.
Ps. Cable ties aren't permanent they are coming off when the frame gets painted for screws Final "look" pre tank lift and paint
Thats looking just fantastic...... starting to really look the part now You have done a great job and it will really stand out with some paint When its finished let me know when I can drop my GSX frame + 10 boxes around to your place. It wont take you long to build as you have done everything once already .... well maybe a few things more than once.
Will these fit? I'm not sure if I could use the coupling rails I've already got. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MIKUNI-3...orcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebccbffff
The easiest thing to do is to fix your standard carbs. As suggested by others. Most float bowls have enough clearance that you could put a nut on the other side of the screw. Alternatively just pick up a secondhand set. If you must fit new carburettors then you should use standard Mikuni VM carbs. That way you can get all the parts that you will need to jet them correctly. These type http://www.sudco.com/mikuni.html#vm Performance carbs like smoothbores or Keihin FCR cost the planet. cheers Blair
Thanks Blair, Yeah I think I'm going that way because they aren't an easy bowl to find on their own. Peter Stevens want me to buy the whole assy for $250, uh no. I'll probably go that way after I get her on the road
Cut the front fender using the same shape as the original, going to strip it and paint it same as the body colour, its going to look ace don't you think? Went and got a TT900 GP 120x80x18 for the rear. Had real trouble finding a tubeless valve the right size so I just used a tube in the end, was $187 from peter stevens and the tube was $15 Its going to add a LOT MORE stability to the bike, holy **** its twice as big and has a directional pattern... so so happy with it. It balances the bike a lot better as well.
I've been a busy boy Original loom connections, for ease of disconnecting. Soldered the new parts on and split the control wires to the new handelbars Extended ground cables from starter motor and casing Hand carved back end of seat out to fit rear light, make it look more integrated fitted indicators, drilled through frame 14mm on one side and 11mm on the other to fit the screw thread
Hi guys, Project has stalled (metaphorically) because I don't have $1,300 to paint the lot with yet *sigh* Also when going to rebuild my brake the little cylinder has seized inside the unit and we can't get it out wit compressed air or force of any kind. So I need an new GS1100/750 style brake cal. and all second hand ones seem as ratty. Anyone got an idea to pinch one from another Suzuki/other brand? I can't find the model number for the part. I'm also looking to get some new carbs because I stripped the screw to prime the bowls on the left hand carb and i'm worried with air flowing over it it will leak fuel onto my new paintjob etc. Still need to: Paint frame, tank, front fend, seat and get upholstery done finish screw taps for switches and solder switched affix indicators and headlight affix seat and tail light new brake caliper and line New carbs and make throttle cable Then its ready to ride, i'd say another $2k to finish takes the project to about $5k
Hi everyone! Thanks for still following me. I found a mate who will paint the bike propperly for $850, its not a top quality "show" finish but its not that kind've bike i've decided so I am going through him so I can finish and get my p's. I bought a totally new brake online for $50! Works great and is in better nic with no rust etc, and its from a GSX250 so everything will work fine at the handlebars end. I've also bought a $6 chain link that finally came, so my chain will be usable again. So, to go: -Finish soldering and tap switch mounts on bars -Paint frame and reassemble, grease etc. -Upholster Seat -Buy Mikuni CV carbs ($160 a pair woo!) and make custom throttle cable -Fine tune rear sets and rear brake -Brakelight and Headlight fitting -Re-Gasket side covers (slight leak, mustn't have done a great job) -Roadworthy, club reg I hope all your winter projects are going strong! I hope to be riding with you all by October-november when it starts fining up ~Ben
