Hey Cal, yep, plenty of busted ZXR engines, if your planning on hitting 19000 rpm on yours, Im reasonably certain yours will go bang too, the sweet spot for these bikes is about 16000rpm, anything after that isnt all that usable in the power stakes. You have to remember these are Jap spec import bikes and some are hitting 24years of age , yes they have had their speedo's wound back so many of the bikes have done shedloads of kays before making it down here. If you change the oil regulary keep it serviced and stay below 16000 rpm, you should be fine.

Im not trying to sound like a know it all, but I have learnt this the hard way having destroyed 2 engines.

    Cheers

    Chris

true, if i was made of metal and 24 years old, i'd bee feeling a bit worn out too ;)

    - but yeah i value all the knowledge on here, you guys rebuild and cut/paste parts from these bikes all the time. so i gotta keep reading and learning off you fellas.

my main goal with this bike is to keep that engine going and restore her to former glory. and go for long rides through the mountains on a unique bike that raises a few eyebrows :)

glad u guys have a decent sized group of riders, i only got a handful of mates who enjoy the backroads.

    Hey Cal
I was going to respond to your posting last night, it was getting late and Chris has covered it all this morning.
Think your goal of restoring the bike to it's former glory is great, they don't make "GEMS" like these anymore.
The beauty is that should you encounter any obstacles along the way, this forum can help you find things, give you advise on certain issues and generally help you get to your final destination.

As for the rides, you needn't worry too much, the bikes don't get pushed hard, we follow the road rules and just enjoy the ride. It's like minded people enjoying a ride and getting to enjoy there trusty Steeds. We make stops along the way, fuel, don't forget the Tucker and some great scenery. Did I mention call of NATURE!

To us a great ride is meeting other riders, enjoying the countryside and our bikes, a good or great pie and last but certainly not least, everyone getting home safely with our licenses intact. That's a good/great ride.:thumb_ups:
Hope you can make the next one.

that's what i needed to hear Phil, guys i normally ride with do at least 20km/hr over the limit at all times lol.
not my kettle of fish nowadays being on only a few points thanks to my supercharged V8 ute doing what it does best.....

yes, slow is good, scenery, food and good company,- im also going to try get a few newer riders involved from the sunshine coast, they need the road time from what i've witnessed lately XD

We are lucky living on the Sunshine as there are some special roads in the hinterland, basically on our door step.

agreed, Kenilworth/Maleny/montville and Mapleton are so nice at the moment, reminds of the 'Shire' from Lord of the rings :D
