hey all
so its double demerits from the 21st to the 26th...

im coming across tom uglies bridge this morning, south bound, and ever since they started the contruction, its been a 60km/h zone instead of a 70km/h zone... i was doing at least 70 and i neared the end of the bridge and spotted a cop car about 70m off. so i put on the brakes and passed the cop at about 65... he was standing there with a radar gun, but he was pretty relaxed... he wasnt pointing the gun down the road i just came, but he was looking that way...

my question is, do those radar guns have cameras in them? or do they have to pull you over to book you in those occasions?

cheers

Im not too sure. It depends. Once ive copped it from a parked cop car and saw a flash. That time i got it in the mail. But on my way to canberra at night i couldnt see anything cos it was dark and the cheeky buggers headlights just came on right before i passed him and he sped off after me.

Did you see a flash? If not your probably ok.

Wheres officer greeny? sure he can tell you about this.

nah i didnt see a flash... and isnt there something about not being able to take peoples pictures from the front because of the whole privacy thing and getting their face in the photo? or is that a myth?

btw i was in the cage ... the bike is still off the road getting a facelift... slowly getting there....

cheers

Ive heard soomething like that too! But i heard its because the flash may blind or stun the driver.

I know with fixed speed cameras, even tho there are signs on both sides of the road, you can safely speed past it if your going the direction facing the camera, i do it all the time, heheheheh

Do you guys know that you can buy radar jammers for fitting to bikes (and they actually work). There available from U.S. suppliers and they prevent the radar or laser device from registering a speed. They are however, as far as I know prohibited in all Australian states.

ok heres how it is, use at own risk
A nifty little semiconductor called
a Gunn Diode ( i dunno where u get them from ) will generate microwaves when supplied with the 5 to
10 volt DC and enclosed in the correct size cavity (resonater). An
8 to 3 terminal regulator can be used to get this voltage from a
car's 12v system. However, the correct construction and tuning of
the cavity is difficult without good microwave measurement
equipment. Police radars commonly operate on the K band at 22 ghz.
Or more often on the X band at 10.525 ghz. most microwave intruder
alarms and motion detectors (mounted over automatic doors in
supermarkets & banks, etc.) contain a Gunn type
transmitter/receiver combination that transmits about 10 kilowatts
at 10.525 ghz. These units work perfectly as jammers. When you get the unit it may be mounted in a
plastic box on the dash or in a weather-proff enclosure behind the
PLASTIC grille. Switch on the power when on an open highway. The
unit will not jam radar to the side or behind the car so don't go past it speeding. OK i dunno how accurate this stuff is, i pulled it from a friend of a friend. USE AT OWN RISK, I AM NOT A CRIMINAL

i think it would be safer to get one of those radar detectors so you know when one is coming up and you can just slow down. anyone know where to get one?

Radar detectors would be better than a jamar wouldn't it? Coz if uve got a jammer...its gonna be very obvious if u cop car cant pick up your speed.

Not really, a jammer would just prevent the gun from registering a speed, suggesting a fault with the machine. You cannot be charged without a speed being registered and even if they do charge you, a magistrate will reject it at a hearing.

Most jammer units are designed to fit under the pillion and within the frame of the bike, so they are not visible. Anyway, they are prohibited, so you have to fit one at your own risk.

Yeah but those things would be reliable..if theyve got it pinged at u for ages..and its not registering...then it registers straight away with another car or bike....They're not stupid..

exactly
i reckon a radar detector is the way to go. that way you can just slow down.

haha some funny advice. Chiangstar lidar (Where a cop has a gun and is pointing at you) is not a speed camera. Unless you got pulled over you will not (or shouldn't) get a fine.

Speed cameras with flashes cannot take front on photos due to the obvious being blinded by the flash.

Whether it be a radar detector or radar jammer NSW police use radar detector/jammer detectors. And you will be pinged for that instead of the speed.
And unless you were travelling at 100kmh+ over the limit, the speeding fine would be cheaper than possesing a detector/jammer.

Oh and there is a speeding ticket for "estimated speed".

So how well do those radar detector detectors work greeny? My mates got one in his car and he hasn't been caught with it. I think his had it for over 2 years.

Also, how does that estimated speed thing work? And how accurate is it? lol. Do u have to do a course or something? And if u wanted to...could u say someones doin 40 kms over the limit even though they were say doin only 10 kms over? How can a person fight the ticket?

yeah thanks greeny... that sets my mind at ease at least.... there have been several times ive sped past a cop with a radar gun actually... so i probably should have known ...

can you tell us the loop holes in the system so we can get away with everything? heheh

hey greeny, just got a quick question for you.

I have a scanner which i sometimes listen to for amusement. Hear alot of entertaining things. Like tonight i heard of a car parked in the left lane on a major city street with its hazards on and four guys dancing in the street. hahahah
also heard of a man at the rocks screaming and howling at the moon. lol

anyways my question is this. I always hear the police checking numberplates on cars constantly but to this day i have never heard em check a bike. why is that?
