Quick question. Does any one know the part number for the generator cover (LHS) on the across? Mine is damaged and weeping oil. Did do a patch job a while back but was only a temp fix. Looking to track down a new one.. Or if anyone knows of a good way to properly fix it. Cheers jess
Hi Jess The parts lists are here but for some reason the number for that cover isnt there ..... its on the schematic but not the part # list http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?resources/categories/gsx250f-across.44/
strange, thank you for the link... think i might have to look into repairing it. most wreckers i have call don't have it or wont separate it from the rest of the engine. which is fair i guess will keep searching the web thank you again for the help
Try suziparts.com.au, from memory .they are about $230 delivered , try your local Suzuki dealer, the across was sold here so they should be able to source the parts for you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Put up some photos of it so we can see what and where the problem is. JB weld is pretty good http://jbweldit.com.au/ http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JB-J-B-W...utty-8267-Repair-anything-Metal-/111293645051 My effort was a bit rushed and I applied way to much to begin with .... but u get the idea .... it wasnt leaking , just badly chewed out. http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/engine-cover-renovation-lotsa-pics.1035/
Will post some pics in the morning of the quick repair job i did a few months ago ( 1 day before my P test ) so it was fairly rushed. Along with some more details , sadly dont think i have any pics of it before the repair. Update soon
Here is the very fast patch job i did. As you can see not sanded back.. I used a poxy putty and was not really sure what i was doing.. Also the repair was done with the cover still on the bike, so was fighting with oil still weeping out. I am due for an oil change in a few weeks so was thinking about doing a far better repair job. Sanding back the current putty, also thinking about doing a small patch on the inside of the cover. I did get a quote for a new part, it was under $200 but still out of my budget which is why i am going down the repair road.
It looks more like dings and scratches than a crack .... I would go your plan B Take it off and get stuck into it from both sides .... As mentioned before my biggest mistake was way too much filler and then having to spend ages getting it down to a smooth level..... at least the inside doesnt have to look pretty.
Totally agree with Grey, that seems able to resurrect to a good condition. Trying to find one may not be so easy as an engine would have to be cactus before someone will part with the cover.
Cool love a bit of D.I.Y Thank you for the input at least i know my thinking was on the right track.. Will post the results in a few weeks Cheers again
sand back to metal and wash in acetone to get all the oil out. give another sand and use a metal filler lightly.better to do 3 slow layers than a big one.lightly sand into shape and a quick coat of spray silverfrost on outside and bob should be your uncle. the trick is to clean all oil residue.
And when I paint things like covers or whatever that are near heat or will get hot I use caliper paint or just engine enamel.
