I have been the proud owner of a '94 GSX250F since June. I signed up for the forums here looking for info, especially a wiring diagram... but I still don't seem to be able to access it....???

You need to be a premium member to access resources. Donate some dosh or ask nicely if you can't afford. Gathering manuals & diagrams is hard work

wow, I can't believe all the responses so quickly, thanks everyone. Here is a pic of my bike not long after I bought it and another one when I had the swing arm pulled out so I could remove the tank to treat the rust....

since I bought it I have also replaced the sprockets and chain and rear rotor and pads. has been a real learning experience!!

My problem now is that even though I have stopped the fuel filters filling with rust my bike still dies sometimes... I discovered that when I first turn on the key that the fuel pump primes for approx 12 seconds and then stops until the engine is running.... but sometimes it still stops and the bike runs out of fuel.... before I mistook this for filter blockages..... I have temp solved the problem by running power to the pump directly from the battery via a switch and it never breaks down now.... but I'm wondering what a more permanent fix would be?

Well if you wired it up directly and it never fails then it's going to be some wiring or electrical problem elsewhere - heat, melted/shorting wires etc

Nope, these carbs need a positive pressure to run

Please let me know if I should post my request for help in another section. I just donated and downloaded the wiring diagram. Its much higher quality than the one's I had found online prior. Unfortunately I still don't really understand it......

The problem is that occasionally when riding the fuel pump stops and I run out of fuel, If I run power directly to the pump it runs again....

When I turn on the ignition, power is given to the fuel pump for about 12 seconds, after that the power cuts out until the engine is running. From what I can tell there is no pressure sensor external to the pump so I'm guessing it is internal... so then I'm guessing that the reason the pump cuts out when the engine is not running is a safety feature so that fuel wont keep pumping out in the event of a major accident... but I don't really understand the diagram so apart from running power to the pump from a point that switches off with the key I really don't know what to do, I don't know what I should be checking to fix it and keep it original.....

Have you tried testing the fuel pump with a multimeter when its running? Make sure the terminals are clean.

Also try another battery in it/check battery acid levels i had a simlar problem with my xj900 would cut out randomly (no fuel pump though) fitted a gel type battery solved the problem. Try borrowing a similar 'good" battery from a mate before you spend the hard earned though

I have a new gel battery. funny story the battery.... when I bought the bike 300k from home the guy told me it needed a new battery but ran OK.... when we got there he was running it with a jump pack sitting in the across storage compartment but wasn't going to part with it.... as soon as it was disconnected the tacho fluctuated and the engine ran rough..... it was a Sunday afternoon so we couldn't get a battery to suit... in the end I bought a 12v ozito drill from bunnings for $40 and wired the battery up as a capacitor. Still had to push start it but the engine ran well and we made it the 300k home. This bike has been one adventure after another!

Sounds like something might be drawing too much power after the bike has run for a while - is the battery charging properly?
If not, you might have a short or charging system fault.

no problems with the charging system as far as I'm aware. I suspect the issue is with whatever is detecting that the engine is running and sending power to the coil in the relay. I have a reasonable understanding of electrics, just have trouble following these types of schematics....

Great story on the battery, I'm stumped as to what could be causing your issue, from what I understand the fuel pump is activated by pressure, there is no other sensor on an across that causes the pump to kick in, can you put a meter on the 2 wires that provide power to the pump and confirm that it has power even after it has stopped pumping ? It seems very odd that you can get it to run for longer if you provide direct power to the pump from another voltage source as I would have thought the feed to the pump stays on all the time. Is your pump genuine across ? Can you post a pic of it ?
