Connect a an ammeter/current meter in series at the main battery supply wire after bike started (you may have to have a "bypass" wire in parrallel so the bike does not stall - then remove wire leaving meter in place) and see how much current is being drawn when bike running.... I agree with Fred - something is putting an unusual load on your battery when running, or even when just the ignition is on. Also, does the voltage on the battery drop a lot when running? If yes, this would confirm the theory - check voltage when just ignition is on, and then when running......

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum.
I have read with interest your dilemma with your fuel pump issues on your Across. Question= with the pump being fed direct from the battery via a switch, does the pump still come on for 10 to 12 seconds whilst priming the carbs and then switch off or are you obliged to switch it off manually????
If it does switch off as before then I would assume that a power drain is taking place elsewhere. Look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Have you tested the fuel pump relay ? could be a stuck relay

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, sorry I haven't replied.

In answer to previous questions, the pump appears to be original but I haven't taken photo's yet. As far as the approx 12 sec prime on switch on, with the pump unplugged, I can measure 12v on its feed wires for 12 sec every time I switch the key on without fail. This is what leads me to believe that this is the correct operation and that then something is detecting the engine is running before re-applying power.....

I put a jumper across pins 3 & 4 of the relay and so far the problem hasn't returned! This reconfirms my theory that it is something to do with sensing that the engine is running. For now I going to leave it this way but really wish I good make sense of the wiring diagram!

I'm unable to do more tests atm, yesterday afternoon I did a complete tear down of the carbies! Mostly back together but tomorrow will consist of re-installing them and working on setting mixture and balancing them.... anyone know how many turns out I should start with on the across for the fuel/mixture screws?
