Crikey!!

Why does this bike have such a rounded? header and other FZR250's don't? Just seems to stick out there. Was/is there a benefit?

I only ask, because I don't know and I don't have access to these bikes like y'all do.

Severe curves in exhaust headers cause pressure to build before the bend and hence don’t let gas pass from the combustion chamber as easily as they should. Some backpressure is good for the engine and generally helps it to run better and increase torque, that is what the exup valve is for in our bikes. The amount of gas that comes from the small 250 engine isn’t really much at all and so any power increases we are talking about here are very small. So provided the bends in the 2krs headers don’t exceed the optimum amount of backpressure required it shouldn’t be a problem, maybe the 2krs exup is programmed differently to compensate for this?

The shape probably helps with cooling as well with all the extra surface area and the proximity to the engine block. I think it is a bit exadurated as well so the exup will fit in front of the sump, giving greater access to the oil filter in he 3ln configuraton.

Yeah the red cloud is around the oil filter. I will post the part number tonight but I think you can just go down to the Yamaha shop and ask for one. As for taking it off, you are going to be throwing it away so many people just hammer a screwdriver in it and screw it off with that but don’t go too close to the base or you may damage the thread.

The shape of the headers i think is a little exaggerated due to the perspective of the photograph. I know mine has that same distinct kink to them, but it doesnt really stick out as much as it appears to.

Hmm.. well i'm of a mind to take the original filter that they sold me back into the shop and to ask for a refund / swap over... but the filter has been sitting outside for about 3 months now probably absorbing moisture etc. I think i'll take it in anyway.

If you could post the part number that'd be great.

Ok oil filter, in fzr250 3ln part number = 3FV - 13440 - 10
This is my number, if you have a 2kr it will be different.
It is always best to check this number with what is on your oil filter before buying one, but this is what is on my 3ln.

Re: Crikey!!

Comparing http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/022866/ (2kr exhaust) with the photo above it is only the 3lns that stick out like this.

Don't know if there was a benefit as such except for the fact that the oil filter is much more accessible! On the 2kr it is in the middle and underneath the exhaust headers (meaning you must take off or rotate the exhaust to get to it).

Sounds like you were sold a 2kr filter, and not the 3ln...

And if you are having trouble getting the filter off and don't want to buy a new tool for this one purpose you can do it the hack's way - take an old but relatively long screwdriver. Place it againste the filter casing. Take a hammer and tap - the scredriver will break the surface easily. Keep pushing and repeat on the other side of the filter. You now have a lever to use to get the filter off. Be aware - some oil may drip out when you do this...

Cheers for the part # Cirian.
Yep, boz; i've removed a couple of car oil filters that way as the daft mechanic screwed the buggers on too tight.

Will go see if i can swap it over.
