rode the 750 today. first time since the lunatic hotel excursion.felt good and the tyre had not gone down so the urethane trick must have worked.

Replaced the front brake pads, wheel and disc on Nix, as it was cheaper to buy a whole wheel from a later model with a relatively new tyre and a serviceable original disc than a new disc on its own.
Checking the old disc with Vernier Calipers confirmed it was way out of spec at under 3.5 mm thickness.

Compared with the newer one at around 4.8 mm (4.5 is the service limit)

Also checked the import compliance plate and confirmed she's a 1990 model. Looking pretty good for a 25-year-old!

After a break of a couple of weeks awaiting parts, a starter motor donated by @The Wizard arrived in the mail (many thanks).
Most of the magnets were missing and some came loose as I opened it up. No problems as the one I have was perfect, so I swapped some bits around and found that I now have a serviceable starter that works fine and is mounted back on the bike:thumb_ups:

Whilst at Chris's recently I found a pipe on a twin Kawasaki that was in perfect condition and would fit after a bit of cutting onto the zxr,(connecting 2 cooling hoses) and today it did just that. Ok, some progress..... this evening fitted the carbs back on after I had cleaned them up a few weeks back.

The barometer was dropping and I called it quits for the night.....tomorrow is another day.:D

Rebuilding yet another NSR. Also came to the conclusion that my shed is size deficient .

    Too small.

Ok, went to the Bunnings car park gathering with Linkin at about 9.00am:- Dr Murdo was there (the only motorbike) and 1 Ford I think at that point..... the smart people where still in front of their heater at home... or in bed... After meeting a few fellow bike enthusiasts in the Bunnings coffee shop, some bright person suggested a ride to (50kms each way) Quirindi, as the VJMC ride was off due to bad weather (we had already decided not to go anyway..)... So, after bidding goodbye to Dr Murdo (who was not as insane as we where..) off we went (there were 5 of us desperados...). Was very cold, but it was ok... Linkin piked out when we reached Duri (he hit reserve, and turned back for fuel - that was his excuse).... We got to Quirindi - pubs were closed, but found a warm coffee shop and had pumpkin soup, coffee etc... Then rode home to Defrost - sorry no pics.... Fizzer went well :thumb_ups:

Can I post my yesterday efforts?

New brake pads, new battery, drain and replace oil. Very happy ZX2R with full synthetic.

Sounds like a very handy skill to obtain

What's wrong with that?? I love cuddling my bike. After each ride I give the duck tail and the fuel tank a squish with little love hearts.

Me too... but the sun came out and I needed some bike therapy, so I changed the brake pads for the Goldfren ones. Old pads had plenty of meat but gotta test the product. Went around the block and was braking hard. Front pads easy to do, rear ones a bit harder due to the larger piston.

The Chinese TZR125 mirrors I bought don't fit out of the box, the bolts are about twice as long as they need to be and not far enough apart. A little backyard engineering and they'll be good to go!

Went for fuel, topped up coolant as had been messing with the thermostat hoses, rode around town for a bit... Feels good to be back on your own bike, that's for sure!

Took the blue bike out the back of Daruka road, plenty of long straights and good twisties, kept the bike on the boil... Bedded in the new pads too. Think I hit $1.60.... You really need to keep the engine in the powerband at high speeds. Have been shifting at 14K and seems to do alright. Happy to report no coolant loss from the overflow tank :crazypilot:
