I just drained the tank and added new fuel, so I win the too lazy award. You get that on bikes that "Been stored for.." "Haven't ridden in..." "Don't ride much.." But they are the cheap ones.
I hope there is! I was quite surprised myself with how much debris was coming out. Frustratingly though, due to the unusual shape it's difficult to see around inside so I'm hoping it's cleaning everywhere. I've read that tank liners are near-impossible to remove or fix so trying to do as good of a job as I can. Well previously on my MC22 I didn't bothering fixing some minor rust. I just tried to keep it topped up! But on this one, since the rust was so bad I thought I better do a good job. It's taking a long time though but I'll go down today and see if it's time for the CLR. I still have to fix 2 dents on the exterior too! Probably would have been cheaper / easier to get one in better condition. The only ones I could find for less than $800 had dents anyway though. I just didn't expect the rust to be quite this bad...
worked on the bmw r65 that i bought in from the states. so far- found how to open the tank lid-mongrel 9of an idea, lubricated the ignition lock, helmet lock and tank lid. last night new oil and filter and some fuel,no start but was trying to. today new plugs and it fired, revved out cleanly with no smoke so probably riding it to drake and narrandra. now to see if club examiner home for rego check then plates?8f not home then next week but itching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Changed oil & filter on the GSXR again. Last of the Penrite 10w40 full synthetic and a genuine suzuki filter that came with the bike when I bought it. Put a HF-138 in last time. Full synthetic might be good but it didn't keep the gearbox smooth. Can hear the engangement dogs slamming together unless you are super smooth with the clutch. The best oil for keeping gearboxes smooth has been the Delo 400 by a long margin, so will try that next time. Bled the brakes and put new Nulon Super DOT4 in both front & rear. Did you know brake fluid eats away at the hoses and seals, which is why it turns black? I guess that's why Suzuki say to replace the lines every 4 years (but who ever does that?) Cleaned off rear wheel with degreaser and lubed the chain. White wheels are a chore and never stay clean for long. And lastly, washed the bike for the millionth time. CT18 is good stuff (thanks to Murdo again for showing it to me)
Rebuilt some carbs on a zx9 for a mate, it fired up but the plugs were shot , also Noticed that the aftermarket pump was rated at 5 bar instead of the 2 it needs , street fighters FTW
CY18 is ok but you need to remember it strips most waxes from the surfaces you are using it on. I prefer to use CT20 as a general wash liquid. It has wax in it so it leaves some protection. Use CT18 in a stronger mix to strip of wax and polish before detailing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Go the 15W/50 from motorex for four strokes. Part of the reason for changing brake fluid is because it absorbs water and that is an issue - rust, primarily. Meanwhile, I got the Across going! Now it just a battery that fits (used a secondhand battery I had), and a left rearset, and a set of tyres, and fork seals, and an air filter, and..... This bike is is too costly to sell... I did a service, carbies cleaned, new brake pads, and new clutch lever. They're not worth much on the market, which is a shame because they are a clever and durable bike. Right?
Not today but yesterday I went for a ride with Jack's new owner and a buddy of his. Jack was struggling to get above 80 within the first few km at highway speeds, so I pulled over and gave the bike a once-over. Discovered the chain was way too loose so pulled out the onboard toolkit and adjusted the chain tension. After a few minutes we were back on our way. Investing in the centre stand and replacement toolkit back when I owned Jack proved to be good forward thinking on my part once again!
Always good to catch up with @kiffsta . Thanks for your hospitality. Have a great 2017. Are Zeus and Thor still there? Those Marty Feldman eyes are so funny.
Been out in the shed already this morning, setting up the new bike to hit the track next weekend. Had to change a few bits, so I felt ok on it....like the clip ons that someone had put on up side down and on the wrong sides!! You can imagine how that looked and especially what it felt like....
Not today but last Friday I installed a new Aldi Bluetooth headset on my helmet. For $49.95 it's good enough for listening to voice navigation and music.
Ok , by the looks of it the SRX that has been forgotten about in your shed so should be sent to another place that it would be well loved and cared for. Good on yea buddy , i'm only jealous .
Needs a few things done... nice ding in the tank that you can see in the pic.. seat needs recovering.. fork seals.. other bits and pieces but overall not too bad a deal... $500 for an 06/2006 VTR250 with 22K on the clock. This one might be a keeper... at least for a little while Haha...nope.. not forgotten. I actually sold my Cafe'd frame today to a guy who needs it for a cut and shut as he is fitting a Yammy 500 single into it... OMFG
I've been playing with stale fuel and locks with wrong keys. I stink of stale fuel now, the worst of 4 bikes so far - they should ban cheap fuel in motorbikes! I pulled the ignition barrel apart, shuffled the sliders, left some out, now the key works. Then it was the fuel cap: pick the lock movie-style (yeah, I did it!), then pulled it all apart because I thought it was seized, but now I can set it to the key - took a bit WD and brake cleaner to pick the lock as the sliders were seized. All this to see if the bike will start - but it won't if I can't find the spark coil... So many little things missing.
