Pinned So what have you done to your bike today?

The purpose of this exercise is to get as close to a "Factory" setup as possible to eliminate the need for Engineering approval when registering the bike... So Single disc it must be...after sleeping on it.. I dont believe any differences between split or monoblock are going to have any effect on this setup... maybe for serious Superbike type setups there will be a difference in feel under high brake pressures... but not on this one.
I will wait until the discs arrive and see how a single gold spot looks but.... I think a Brembo will tend to be a more "understated" look. Maybe painted in the titanium colour rather than gold.

 

Any of the calipers you have will be fine, and on a 300mm disc for such a small bike it is more than enough. The blowbag Yamaha R3 only has a single disc and I think the SRX would struggle to equal its lap times.

 

Not so much done to the bike... but I picked up a new MotoDry Jacket... a delayed Birthday [resent from the better half (she was away last weekend on my Birthday). It comes with a waterproof liner and a quilted liner.. she is a firm fit with both liners in... but very comfy with eith Just the waterproof liner or just the quilted liner.
Now just waiting on my new brain bucket..

Well, I spent the better part of yesterday trying to get the engine in a ZXR250C running. It needed carbs, so I pulled a spare set out of the box and bolted them on.



Engine started and ran for a bit, but then died when I gave it some throttle. Did all the normal checks and after eliminating everything else, I pulled the carbs off to see what was going on in there. My notes for these carbs said 'Setup for C' with a date of mid-2020, so I thought maybe something had gone awry.

Well, Homer Simpson moment, when I pulled the bowls off everything looked okay until I realised there were no Main Jets in the emulsion tubes...D'oh!

So, since I already had the carbs mostly apart, I decided to strip them down and rebuilt them after letting all the bits have a good soak in 3Bond overnight. I'll be using these carbs for testing 250C engines, so I will run the inlet trumpets only as I couldn't be fragged installing and removing the airbox all the time. Running #115 mains across all of the carbs instead of the standard 122:125:125:122 that's normal for ZXR250C engines.

Fire up tomorrow. And, if all goes well, I will find a rear swingarm and some brakes so I can go for a lap of the block to check out how she runs.

 

Getting rid of $h!t can be quite cathartic... just got to find someone that wants it all...

Got myself a refund on the 90 degree valve stems that were coming from Mortlake (Sydney) via China... so I found out.
Surprisingly they agreed to refund me when I pointed out it was false advertising.
A new set is on its way from MXstore.... a bit more expensive but I should have them this week.. I am kind of over all the rubbish on Ebay... if I want to buy rubbish I will just go direct to Ali Express and save myself some $$

90 degree tyre stems arrived today from MXstore.... fitted up to the rim already but it is too damned cold to even consider putting a tyre on tonight. I will wait to Saturday when I can put on the zip ties and warm the tyre up with the heat gun to a reasonable temp...

 

Got the ZXR250C engine running and have now started to build a bike around it for some laps around the block to see how she runs under load. Compression wasn't great, but that engine hasn't been run for a very long time. The bike is a bit rough and ready, but that's all I need to do some testing. I'd take it to Broadford for some high speed and extended running, but the rear tyre is a 2006 vintage and front is only a couple of years younger. No real visible issues and the rubber is still reasonably soft, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let me onto the track. I'm amazed at how long modern tyres last if they're stored correctly.
