Hi Murdo, the bike is going great and a really sweet ride, thanks a bunch. I initially had a dropped cylinder problem and high eng temp. The running issue turned out to be the fuel flow through the tap unless you had it turned to the precise position. Tap O/H and all is sweet. I ended up flushing the radiator and double flushed the engine side of things with demin water.
I took it up to Mt Glorious yesterday for the usual gathering of the old (either riders or bikes it doesn't matter) and found myself getting a touch 'enthusiastic' with it (no alcohol involved) hence bringing the Spada online.

Interesting conundrum, I just checked on the "grey import" spada frame in the shed and it has both the build date, 1989, and the import date, 1999 on the compliance plate. This frame was a nsw import sold by Caringbah Motorcycles. Have you done a ppsr search on your frame. This may come up with both dates.

Here are the details that are a cut and paste from a PDF so a bit disjointed. Pertinant piece in o:

Things seem to be getting good!
Bike 1 PPSR gives a build date (1990) and a Compliance Date (8/1998) so this is the bike I will register. My darling wife is on a few motorcycling club committees and has a role of 'Dating Officer' for one of the recognized Incorporated clubs so Happy Days ahead I would be thinking. She has determined it is a 1990 model. Inspection man says if 1990 is on the plate then that's the date he will go by, I had argued previously that I had info on frame/engine build data but he wasn't interested as he goes by Compliance date - go figure! By his logic if I imported an 1888 Oldsmobile horseless carriage in 2020 then it would be a current model????

    Hello
    Spadas owners!
I need your help. Few years ago my Spada was stolen. Now i have damaged VIN number (frame serial number) on the ride side of the steering head.
Who know where can be dublicate VIN number on the bike?
I will be grateful for any information.

    Hi Aleko,
I expect it depends a lot in the regulations in your part of the world?
I believe that the headstem stamping is the primary VIN number but there could well be other stampings and compliance plates on the bike. I have serial number plate, a compliance plate, a stamping on the top right frame rail and a stamping on the headstem on my Spada.
You could try approaching your local registration authority with what you have and the engine number.

I’d consider finding a retired/old automotive metal worker /vintage car guy.
It’s surprising how many of these have a full set of metal stamps with both number and letter metal stamps.
As long as you are absolutely certain,(don’t make a mistake), that you have the numbers correct, get the damaged section re stamped.
It’s arguably not illegal to do this as your not changing the number, just repairing it,(check local laws)
