Suzuki Across No Exhaust

    So i took a video of my across and what it sounds like when you chop the stock muffler off. I had a slip on to put on but wanted to hear what it sounded like with nothing lol. Its pretty loud!

    lol they do sound great when they start screaming, there was a guy around where i live who gutted his stock across exhaust, for the sake of everyones sanity please dont do it, could hear his bike like 2 k's away if not more.

    haha nah i just have an aftermarket slip on :) Its loud but not that loud lol.

    show us a video of your muffler, keen to see how she sounds and looks. Also have you noticed any performance loss on account of the lower backpressure or whatever, or hell, did it improve performance? probably negligible.

    But wow that sounds chunky on idle.

    Will do :) I need the get the bike sorted out its running like a pig at the moment. It takes like 5-7 mintues to warm up when i start it so i can actually ride the thing without it missing every 2 seconds. And then it breaks down above 11k rpm lol. Needs a visit to the mechanic

    Mines actually having a. Err similar problem. I got this idea in my head it is running rich so I'm going to lower the jet needles one notch and see what happens.

    i had a mechanic balance my carbies and ever since he did the bike runs so rich at idle. sometimes fuel comes over the overflow.. how does this happen

    If fuel is coming out the overflow it is err, overflowing through the needles not seating correctly to maintain the correct float level.

    Im taking about the overflow tube that runs down the side of the bike. Either way whatever they did when balancing the carbs has made the bike idle like trash and ride like crap for the first 10 minutes or so of riding. Its getting worse and now the plugs are fowled and i just cbf with it

    No he is refering to the float needles and seat ...inside the float bowl

    Crappy pic but this is a type of float needle .... the black part wears or goes hard and doesnt seal

    Oh ofcourse! Man these carbs are interesting things. Im actually pretty keen to do a rebuild once i find the parts.

    so bike was at the mechanics, it was leaning out. He wasnt sure if it was due to the pipe and cold weather or the previous owner playing with it. Either way i got the carbs cleaned and hes tuning it this week. Should be good when i get it back :)

    So it turns out the exhaust is causing the bike to lean out. He bascially made the bike run as rich as it could and its still leaning out above 14k... i really should have researched this before i chopped off the stock exhaust and put on a straight through slip on :(

    You can fit the jets yourself. Go one or two sizes bigger and try it, see if it runs any better.

    check out this video from twystedthrottle he is a member here aswell.



    replaces main jets on the balius carby's and makes it look easy, might possibly have to do the float heights to allow more fuel in but im sure someone here is knowledgeable in that as well. could also drill a small hole in the diaphragm as well to increase pickup.

    DO NOT DRILL HOLE IN DIAPHRAM, this will render them useless and you will need to buy new ones. Get jetting right before you try anything else. Carb bowls need FLOW of fuel, by raising the float height you will upset jetting again, then have to go through the whole procedure again to get it running right. Just go up a size on the main first and try. Don't make more than one change at a time as you will not know which change made the difference.
