OK folks, i need a little steering in the right direction as to what to do?!

So as most of you know my lovely little fizzer is sitting in the corner of my garage since last July after it put two big holes in the block. The block was stripped and the salvageable parts kept to add to the abundance of spares that i already have for this bike.

A motor has yet to be purchased, few have been presented either needing a rebuild or for the cost of a new bike plus a rebuild.....and some running ones on ebay i have missed out on...So all in all i have kind of lost interest in looking and focused more of my time and effort on the Ninja as i aim to do the full season on it this year, which begs the question.........what do i do with the FZR??

Now if money was no issue i'd go and buy a 3LN6 from my local wreckers for $1500 or Buy a bike over east and send it over here but the reality is the more i spend on the Fizzer the less i can spend on the ninja as all in all i still have to keep in mind that i have other commitments to pay/save for.

I did plan to race it in P6 (apart from the fact its got no motor lol) but reality is i cant afford to race both bikes. I did want to kept it for track day fun but thats two 250's and i'm prob best using the one i'm to race to get more comfortable on it and i question if i would lend it to others to ride?? The bike is not costing me anything (apart from upset) sitting where it is, so I'm not desperate to off load it (hence this thread), but my question to you all is 1 of 4......

    1) Do i try sell it as is now? if so what money?

    2) Do i strip it for parts (its got lots of nice bits) and sell it that way - prob worth more that way but a pain and a shame to wreck it..........

    3) Do i leave it and wait for a motor to turn up for the right money then sell it as running?

    4) Open to other suggestions and/or reasons to keep it.....

    appreciate your responses......

http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/fzr250-track-race-revamp-project.2435/ if you need a bit of reminding of what my fzr is like.....

    Hmm

    1. Salvageable parts kept to add to the abundance of spares that i already have for this bike.

Already got lots of parts that now won't really be going anywhere?

    2. A motor has yet to be purchased, few have been presented either needing a rebuild or for the cost of a new bike plus a rebuild.....

    Money an issue?

    3. So all in all i have kind of lost interest in looking and focused more of my time and effort on the Ninja as i aim to do the full season on it this year

Lost interest? Prefer to invest your money into the ninja?

    4. Now if money was no issue i'd go and buy a 3LN6 from my local wreckers for $1500...

    Money still an issue?

    5. The reality is the more i spend on the Fizzer the less i can spend on the ninja as all in all i still have to keep in mind that i have other commitments to pay/save for.

    Money still an issue?

    6. I cant afford to race both bikes...

    Money still an issue?

    7. i'm prob best using the one i'm to race to get more comfortable on it...

    Priorities?

    8. I did want to kept it for track day fun but thats two 250's...

Track day fun is a good reason to have it hanging around...

    9. The bike is not costing me anything (apart from upset) sitting where it is, so I'm not desperate to off load it (hence this thread)...

Happy to let it sit for a while though?

Which begs the question.........what do i do with the FZR??

I count more reasons to part with it than keep it, but it's your choice. I understand how sentimental these things can be which doesn't make it an easy decision as much as a necessary one.

I still am pained by parting with a much loved previous bike due to circumstances, but sometimes life is like that. Goodluck with whichever way you go...

Stu, I fit mean to be rude, but money is always an issue. Doesn't matter if your well off, struggling, or in between.

Most probably the reason Moo cant afford both race bikes is because one costs a small fortune to maintain and run with no damage. And both bikes have been binned (no offence moo). Ask anyone who runs a race bike that it would be almost impossible to run 2. Your more than doubling your workload.

Bikes are expensive by definition, so money is always a problem, and if it is, it's not really any of our business.

No doubt part of the reason why moo is weighing up options is, replacement parts for the Ninja are far cheaper and readily available than the fizzer. Is becomes a cost v practicality v time v budget. That's a big balancing act.

There is no doubt some sentimental attachment to that bike isn't there @Moo ??? Cause no doubt it you looked at it dispassionately, you'd drop it like a high temperature.

Wait, you already did that! (Sorry, couldn't resist)

@Stu & @Revolver gents you both have really strong and helpful comments.

Stu, really great way of viewing it, i never really read over what i had written until you highlighted those area's.

and Shannon.....no harm mate.....believe it or not crashing is fun(sometimes).......until you look at the damage bill :(

But you are both right, money is the common and highlighted evil and of which i don't currently have enough of to run and maintain both bikes. i'd love to be able to race the two bikes but the costs mount up, everything is doubled, and whats worse is that the FZR falls in historic and the Ninja is modern production so two different clubs, different race days = two sets of race fees. also as Shannon mentioned
Fizzers in WA are not all that easy to get parts for and if i had another engine blow i don't want bash my head against a brick wall trying to get one....i think if i lived back over east i may have a different tune i'd be playing but while i'm over here its reality. if i had of already found a motor a while back and i had the bike back up and running, i'd prob convince myself easier to keep it but i think as @Stu mentioned there is more reasons for me to shift the bike on then keep it collecting dust until i have the time the effort and the money to make it right......Savings is a big focus for me and my partner right now, after all we have spent getting settled in Australia its time to top up the savings and curb the spending. i'll never be happy with one bike and i'll never be happy with one car but i'll just have to learn to be content for the time being......

If you don't mind clutter I'd strip it. I'm biased as I'd probably be up for some parts :D

With the engine gone its easy to strip. Sell it for parts and make a bundle. Or keep it and shoehorn a different engine into it :D

Sit down, pour yourself a drink.............relax

Ok, step one is complete.......now "to part or not to part"...........time for a second drink.

You have a good if not a great bike to go racing.............
Many have made mention they would interested in some parts............feeling better already ;)
The answer is becoming clearer.............strip and sell :thumb_ups:
Advantages are multiple.......makes room in the garage.............more money in your pocket :D

There is simply no time for that 3rd drink........get out there and start dismantling, feel better already!!!:lolsign:

Honestly I had same thing without the blown motor but either way I would part the fzr to help fund the ninja which parts are easily available and help take the pressure off in the end do what you think you can live with !!!

Mate if u need the money to keep racing the Ninja then sell it off as parts ..... I doubt u would get much as a roller .... and at least u can post off a lot of bits.

In the end u can always buy another

@Grasshopper will take the carbys :lolsign:

I've seen a lot of cheap FZR400 engines on Yahoo Japan and I imagine the 250s would be too. I have no idea about shipping but it would be worth investigating. LCL by sea of course. The 3LN6 and 3LN7 were actually detuned and had Zeal cams fitted so if this is a track bike then best to stay with the earlier models.
