OK, she's all in road going condition thanks partly to the Viton carby kit from Lite Tek. Had a bit of fun, stripped the carbs down completely, washed them in a light acid / detergent bath then a thorough clean out with a can of carby cleaner & a strong blow out with compressed air. Fitted the Lite Tek kit A & B plus the shaft seals, nothing better than a set of clean strong & fresh carbies. Fitted a new set of clutch plates & springs as she was slipping. Been out twice now & she goes like new, as good as she looks. Having a bit of trouble with the fairing maker 'Bits for Bikes' there's a pic up there somewhere showing the issues. Luckily the front upper & both side lowers are a good fit but the rest are no good, stickers up side down, repairs that can be seen through the paint, malfitting rear upper which rubs on the side of the tank's new paint & a gap on the same piece that you can stick your finger through that should be tight. I'm not a whinger & I've given them over 2 months to respond to the issues & all I've got is a reply that they'll replace piece with the upside down decal, I've asked for more but no replies now. Ive had to repaint the old rear uppers, buy more stickers, paint etc etc & now I have a set of propper fitting parts. It cost me my time over Christmas. I wouldn't use them again because of the very average quality & the non existent after sales service
Hey I'm interested in where you got the fairing, so as to avoid them, "bits for bikes" isn't coming up with a website Shame to have the fairing wearing in your tank like that. Anyway, it looks good from a distance and if you were whizzing past it would look perfect peace out
Pics on page 1. parts4bike (1222) are the people, just did a search & can't see anything advertised, hope they haven't changed names ready to prey on others. They also used the name 'Fairing Kit Company' Beware.
Just realized that Parts for bikes aren't linked to the Fairing Kit Company, actually Parts for Bikes are a great dealer & I've bought a lot from them. But avoid that Bloody 'Fairing Kit Company', they've gone to ground & I can't get a responce at all, they admitted to the obvious mistake with the yamaha decal on up side down & that they'd repalce the part but nothing so far & I've given up. I repainted the originals which are twice the quality plastic anyway & they fit properly. Another thing, The neutral light stays on but I expect a simple thing to clean ? Theo other thing is the oil light stays on all the time, I bought a pressure guage & tested the engine pressure & it's good so I changed the pressure switch & no luck so with all that ruled out it must be the height switch, where is it located & is it worth pulling out for a look & maybe a clean or replacement?
We'll make a time to go for a run one weekend, we're in Cardiff. We usually do an early morning Sunday run somewhere & be home by lunch, it keeps the missus happy, she must love me.
The latest paint scheme, The Chinese fairings are gone & the oem's are now back on. We didn't go after the Marlboro colours for any particular reason but turns out they are the year appropriate colours for the FZR500 GP bikes
My oil light stays on also these days ..... it did go out with the little 'top up the oil' trick but nows its just on no matter what. The oil level switch ..... I pulled the one from the spare motor ... u have to really give it a big tug and wiggle it as the o ring binds it up ..... I believe u can clean them out .... when I do the valves or oil change next Ill pull mine out. I could imagine they would fill with crud after 20+ years
We would have been going this weekend but we have a big 2 day race meeting at the Kart Club Cameron Park & I'm doing Tech in the weigh shed. The Nat's are in March so it's a busy time, all hands on deck. We got another bike registered yesterday for dad so the gang is growing,, the more the merrier. I'll keep you posted, I'm getting desperate for a ride myself, Where is the sensor located? I cant make it out. Is that an older model with a cartridge filter?
Thats at the bottom of the engine 89 3LN1 has an internal cartridge filter and 90 3LN3 onwards has external spin off filter. Looks like the 3LN1 has the oil level switch only and the later models just have an oil pressure switch only.
Ok, mines an 89 chassis with what we were told a 91 engine. Looks like thats corect then cause its got a spin on filter. Wonder why the light stays on then, I'll have to check the wiring. I tested the pressure & it's good, I even replaced the switch with a new one but the light stayed on. The bloody neutral light stays on too, wonder if the problem is related & not the switches. I am electrically challenged so if anyone can help ?
Yea Id be checking the wiring starting from behind the dash to the switches for corrosion , exposed wire , dodgy connections , broken wires etc
I think you'll get the basics from the fzr400 wiring diagram - it's posted somewhere in this forum, perhaps on the my fizzer thread. Curiously the neutral switch goes to the TCI box as it's a safety interock to prevent the bike being started in gear unless the clutch switch is activated
Heres a link to a 400 manual ..... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByHbiu0yM2SGZDZlVEY3TU5FdlE/edit?usp=sharing
