Spoke a tad bit early. Adjusting the air screws got rid of nearly all my problems but not quite everything.

When feathering the throttle and maintaining speed and revs in between 4k-9k rpm and going up a slight hill (a bit of a load) the bike is does the same thing as before when the screws were 3.5 turns out but on a way smaller scale. Slight loss of power, slight surging and slight sputtering and a clapping kind of sound from the exhaust. This only happens on hills, flats and declines she revs very nicely. It feels very minor though, no huge loss of power etc.

Further tweaking of the air screws?

    Thanks again guys, nearly there!

Cheers :) definitely not one of these motorcycles that's for sure.

Just rode home from uni and the bike spat the dummy big time! Wouldn't idle and almost conked out on me had to rev it to stop it conking out, sputtering a lot more sounded like it was running 2 or 3 cylinders, got it halfway home thinking I wouldn't make it it just all of a sudden came good and ran fine.

    Has me stumped for sure.

My uni is on a big hill, surely altitude wouldn't be the cause? I say that because the bike has done this before only at uni and when I'm home it runs fine..

You done that fuel filter yet? Slightly lower flow rate of fuel really messes with these zxr's. The spluttering with load could be the float bowls not filling fast enough as you need more fuel for the load, and revving it to stop it from clonking out leads me to think again not enough fuel in the float bowls ( the main jets pickup fuel from lower into the bowl then the idle jet) They are cheap worth a shot right?

It was beyond belief when I switched mine I instantly stopped breaking down on the hwy ( I could ride all day around town but if I did 100 for a couple of kms I would run out of fuel ) turns out after tracing it back my problems started when I changed the fuel filter from a little mesh one to a bigger paper one, I even tried a tiny copper one.

Will try that! It is the only other thing I really stuffed around with. What would you recommend? Big brass one? It's got a small paper one atm. I'll swing past the shop tomorrow and hopefully have the problem nailed!

I bought one of those really long screwdrivers as well. Makes the job a bit quicker. It also doubles as a good novelty (you can tell your friends about how big it is ;))

I didn't see the above & spoke too soon,
Take the tank off & check the strainers in the tank that feed the fuel lines.
Check you haven't got a kinked fuel line when it's all together.

Hey guys, I think I solved the mystery gremlin. This is gonna sound funny but don't laugh!

On advice to check fuel lines etc ready for another week of commuting. I lifted the tank and saw the problem straight away. I had the fuel filter in the wrong way! Switched it around and went for a quick blat down the esplanade and there were no complaints. Definitely won't make that mistake again!

And on a side note; sunset at the beach, everything is quiet and peaceful, and then along comes the zxr haha. Gee they are loud bikes for mere 250's hey! I turn almost every head along the beach front, not to see if its an exotic bike or something but to see what is making that bloody racket ha!

    Thanks again guys.

Just for anyones info ..... theres usualy an arrow printed/moulded on the filter somewhere indicating the flow direction ... sometimes u have to look very hard for it.

My cheap repco one doesn't (paper) but I put it filter side first to the tank so if blocked I can see it not flowing through made sense to me lol

I'll second that, just went to the garage and checked a new one that Chris gave me, had to put a torch behind it to see the arrow. Hey, she's all good so enjoy the ride:thumb_ups:
