    Fixed :dance2:

Blocked off the line on the airbox that goes to crankcase breather. Breather now has a little pod filter on it.

Bike runs like a watch :imtheking:

    Bit of an update.

Bike's registered and have had no major issues.

Shifting into 2nd under power can be a bit funny, it will go into gear OK but the shift lever gets smacked down onto my foot. I've been told this is in an indicator of a gearbox issue that Yamaha never admitted to or conducted a recall for. If it's not too bad it can be fixed by undercutting the engagement dogs for 2nd and 3rd, and replacing some other parts, or if its rooted I can just drop in an 03 transmission.

    I quote...

Naturally new top end stuff would be a good move while the cases are apart, and check the bottom end as well.

For now I'll go easy on the 2nd gear when riding this thing. It has never popped out of gear, which is the sign that it's rooted, so hopefully it will last until I can afford the rebuild.

Other than that, it's a sexy sexy bike :crazypilot:

Do they change easier without clutch? i Know the my zx7 hates under full power 1>2 gear change with clutch but does it super smooth on a clutchless change.

Not really, I've been trying not to do lots of hard work on the gearbox... clutches are cheaper than an engine rebuild after all. I have done a little bit of clutchless shifting, which seems fine, but never under full power.

Changed the plugs out today. It supposedly had CR9EK's in it, but it actually had CR8EK's in it... 2 ranges hotter than standard. Apart from that they all had a nice tan colour to them, with #1 being a shade darker than the rest.

I put in CR10EIX's which are the standard heat range plug, but iridium versions and not dual pronged.

A little trick to get new spark plugs in without cross threading them. Turn them counter clockwise with pressure on them until you hear a click and feel a small movement from the plug. That's the thread seating in the correct spot, it can then be done up by hand and torqued to the correct spec.

Today I installed the ventura rack I bought. Already scored a matching bag off ebay for next to nothing

Found 4 sets of standard size piston rings on ebay for only $80 posted so I snapped them up, they arrived today. Ahhh I love new parts :D A good bargain, too... far too expensive to get from Japan or USA with the current exchange rates, and forget local dealers, even more expensive. CMS prices are also too dear.

BUT, what I have done is order a set of crankcase gaskets (sump, head, clutch, timing cover etc), cam chain, and other misc parts like detent spring and expansion tank cap/hose, for the inevitable rebuild, from partzilla (USA). Even with the poor exchange rate to USD, I've saved a lot of money, as their prices are very good.

I will try to find someone selling a complete 03-05 R6 transmission for cheap, because if I have to get the engine out, flip it upside down and take off the bottom crankcase, take the whole transmission out and fix it, I don't want to have to do it again!!! Having 5 engagements dogs on 2nd gear is much better than 3, AND I think I'll get the 03-05 gearbox dogs undercut, to make doubly sure...

More research on R6Messagenet has detailed a potential manufacturing defect on the shift cam for 2nd gear. One more thing to look out for.

Right now it is because I lack the motivation... it needs the head changed. Apparently taking material off the head and barrels will make it not oil tight and also blow the gasket. Coolant pipes are leaking too... I just don't want to look at the fizzer right now... Have risky's 2kr to do as well.

Well to be honest I don't want engine parts, shocks rims or frame (ie the big stuff) - plus shipping on a parts bike will kill the investment a bit. But I would take close to everything else. Most of which I assume would pack into a couple of shipping boxes (apart from the fairings/tank which may need other arrangements). If you want to part it out let me know... maybe we could do a deal.

Not sure if I posted this. New clutch went in before the weekend at Glenn Innes.
