I bought a pair of these about a year ago (or very similar ones for about the same price) they are OK, but sizes are on the small side, and the leather quality in real life is not great. There are patches of the leather breaking down in spots. So, in my case, I got what I paid for I just use mine for ducking down town ect and the speed is not great

Wow, thats a lot better than my experience. I am still waiting on components ordered in early feb. When tracking they show as in transit.

 

Yeah, I think I just struck it at the height of the COVID panic. I notice on the tracking that one of my shipments got returned to the sender for security reasons and then got resent. About 1 month lost on that little exercise.
I am quietly hopping that I might see something arrive before the end of April.

 

Without taking the piss , how about we support Aussie businesses instead of buying from China. While I am by no means racist (one of my best mates is Chinese ) , I kind of feel like it is poor form to buy Chinese at the moment.

I am not trying to stir the pot, but this is more an honest reaction to the covid-19 crisis.

 

I would, if we still made anything at all.

 

That's where it falls down isn't it - I believe nowadays our largest industry still classified as manufacturing is the packaging industry

The problem is that we cannot compete on wages, and that reality is built upon the fact, that if we were to try people would be employed yet still go hungry and likely have to live in tents because they wouldn't be able to afford accommodation

 

I would far sooner buy from Japan , Italy , Malaysia or Thailand (in fact, any other Country) than from China.

For example ariete fork seals are made in Italy, imported by link international. I’d buy them over Chinese stuff anyday , this way I am buying quality seals and help support an Aussie company.

I also try and buy brake pads , clutch parts from EBC which are made in the USA or uk, again there is a choice.

I appreciate there is a mindset that it all comes from China , but there are options.

I concur Chinese stuff is cheaper , but I am trying to make a change in my buying habits .

Agreed, I don't trust stuff like brake/clutch components from China... they are good for stuff that's no longer being made or not available, and cheap bling.

 

I feel like while overall, it may seem unethical to buy from China due to lower wages and poor worker treatment. The reality is, as others have mentioned, that many of the parts purchased from Australian companies are assembled from Chinese components. There is just too much demand for everything and the only way that supply can be met is with the incredible manufacturing efficiency of China. If I were to buy anything to support non Chinese production, I wouldn't prioritise the US as their economy is also run unethically in my opinion. If I can get something locally I will, but otherwise, China is usually the go for components that don't require a high degree of trust and where quality is not an issue for their function (bling etc.)

 

China isn't even the cheapest for production in this day and age. When I was in Thailand I noted that their automotive parts / manufacturing appears to be booming from all the factories around Bangkok. Kawasaki are building the new ZX25R there, and in Indonesia. I believe Triumph have a factory there as well. KTM is based in India, and BMW have their G310's made in India.

 

Main issue with a bike that consists of entirely German and Austrian parts. $70 for the clamp that holds the clutch lever on
