Ok, the head is ready to be torqued down now but the manual says that it only needs 18nm to torque it down, sounds kind of low. Can anyone confirm this before I torque down the head please?

Thanx for the wishes :thumb_ups: ..... when u start hitting these numbers u tend to let them pass by without too much fanfare ..... I have a 4 yr old son and 25 yr old wife so I must be doing something right  ...... the only thing I like old are bikes and beer :lolsign:

Good lot of tools there ... the torque wrench is a must ....... well done :D

The only reason I want to confirm the head bolt torque settings is because when I was undoing them the bolts felt like they had a hell of a lot more than 18NM...

Also the manual states that the head bolt which needs 18NM is only a 7mm bolt but in actual fact it's a 10mm bolt so it makes it harder to believe the whole 18NM torque info...

Haha, yep one of those posters is definitely on the cards. I'm pretty sure there was one for sale on Ebay when I was browsing the other day.

Yeah I googled and found the exact same thread. I asked Chris and he does his ZXR at 18NM so that's good enough for me. All torqued down now :)

Ok, well the good news is the motor is fully back together, correctly torqued up and there were no nuts or bolts left over. The bad news is... Oh wait there is no bad news. Woohoo!! :dance2:

I haven't got a compression tester yet but I guess I'll find out if it has good compression once the motor is back in the bike and running. Fingers crossed...

18nm is correct, whatever you do, do not over tighten the head.

Exhaust gas analyser? I wish... I only work 15 hours a week so the chances of me getting my hands on one in the near future is very slim.
