I don't have a compressor yet but did a bit of a bleed and managed to get one piston out. It was kinda hard when I was holding the lever and brake master cylinder in one hand, the calliper between my shoes and the spanner on the bleed nipple in the other hand but yeah, I should be able to get em out using this method. btw is it possible to get new seals and pistons from within Australia? Importing takes forever...
Cool, I ordered those ones on eBay and they arrived in 10 days, you can try Kawasaki as they might be the same as the Balius but I can't be sure Chris
And if all those methods fail you can try drill an old bolt of the right thread and fitting a grease nipple to it and using a lever type grease gun to fill the caliper with grease to push the pistons out. A good lever type grease gun can push up to 1000psi, so be careful.
Good one Murdo, I knew the other methods but had never heard about using a grease gun??? 1000psi is a lot of pressure. They can be a real pain in the backside when they won't move, most times one moves and not the other, shouldn't be that hard.
In regard to the brake calliper seals which come in sets of four would both the left and right seals be the same? I only ask because an Ebay seller has a listing for the zxr250a brake calliper seals but one is L/H and one is R/H. They are both 24mm seals and when I removed them from the bike they looked the same to me. It may have been partially covered beforehand but I am hunting a chain and I know that it needs to be 520 pitch but does it matter if it is an o ring chain or not and is there any benefit of the o ring chain? or even an x ring for that matter... A cheap one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/520H-Mot..._Parts_Accessories&hash=item5646aa21e6&_uhb=1 O ring chain: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/520H-O-1...orcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item56466352cd X ring chain: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/520H-X-1...orcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item484246574e Or the expensive RK 520-MO chain: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RK-520-M..._Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ac6a4f8d3&_uhb=1 Sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure that I get one that will work. The gold one's look pretty nice to be honest
Just a quick walk-around clip from the other week after I put the new head gasket on and changed the oil/filter & coolant.
Haha, that's not just dust/dirt. The back wheel needs to be repainted and I need to find a way to make the surface rust on some areas shine.
Yea I had to repaint the rear on the Fizzer ....apart from being white it was just embedded with road grime and wateva and I couldnt get it off. The front came up ok though with plenty of elbow grease.
Your bike looks a million bucks. The engine sounds sweet as, I have always used RK chains on my bikes and have never had one single problem. You have done an outstanding job, well done mate.
Heres some blurb on chain types .... http://www.biketorqueracing.co.uk/b...-chain-and-sprockets/o-ring-and-x-ring-chains
Thanks guys, she's gettin there now Just bought new brake seals(x8), a new MB9U Motobatt battery and a new helmet. Next payday I'll be getting a fibreglass repair kit with plastic epoxy for the broken fairing where the right front indicator goes, new gold O-ring chain and whatever else I can think of that it will need to pass a roadworthy. Shoot me a PM if you know a good, lenient mobile roadworthy bloke around the Brisbane area as the bike is 23 years old so it's never going to be 100% perfect.
Very informative, I knew about non O ring and O ring chains but honestly hadn't heard of X ring chains.
