Just going through the bike parts I bought yesterday to decide how to approach the rebuild/restoration of my Harley Davidson Cagiva SS250, cleaning bits, seeing what needs reparing or replacing, etc. I love working on bikes, and starting on a new project gets my adrenaline going!

    Cheers

Sold the ZXR! After much dealing down and denial I had to let that bike go. Was a bit sad to see it gone

However, progress continues on my 400. Valve clearances were royally screwed so I am waiting to get my hands on some 170 size shims to fix that issue.
Also remounted the R6 shock which looks gorgeous :D

I put new pistons rings, gudgeon pins and little end bearings in mine. Also had the barrels replated and cracks welded in the bridge across the exhaust ports on both barrels. The workshop ground a bit of relief on the bridges as well. According to them it's a weak spot on the NSR barrel. My barrels had scouring and putting and while the bike was running ok, with the HRC kit etc putting out another 25hp or so I felt a bit better about refreshing it all.

Put on a set of Dunlop Q3s. My last set of Sportsmarts were pretty decent so I thought I'd give Dunlops another run.

Big day in the garage, I had 2 Cibbys in for some work, the first was Shane who had an ad on Gumtree asking for help and would pay someone to get his Cibby running, he had already paid 2 people cash and they couldn't get it going. The bike showed up and we ripped the carbs apart and one slow jet had half a head, the rest were blocked. I found a spare jet and then socked the loat in threebond for an hour. The Carbs were reassembled and refitted them to the bike. We also changed the plugs checked spark on all 4 ,number 4 was very weak, so I cut 2mm off the lead and the spark issues was sorted. Attempted to fire it up, alas the leads were in the wrong order, quickly fixed them and she fired up and sounded great.

Next job was @Malarkey 's bike, he hadn't heard it run yet, so like Shane's bike, the carbs were stripped, a couple of the slow jets were blocked and they also got the threebond treatment. The carbs boots were so hard, we managed to "Just" get the carbs back on, hooked up the aux fuel tank and she fired up, it sounded tough with the exhaust. We also fitted a replacement radiator, replaced the plugs, changed the oil and filter. It runs like a top !! Malarkey has made a shopping list of spares he needed then we will have another shed day where we get it ready for a RWC.

Finished the 1,000Km service on my CFMoto 150. Valves were tight (as expected on new engine), oil and filter (pretty clean) and checked spark plug and air filter.
Last Monday I stripped the radiator, hoses and header tank off and flushed them until clean. I left them all week to dry out before refitting and filling with a 'waterless coolant'. I am using this to not only as an antifreeze, but as it has no water as a anti corrosive, and I will never have to change it again. Link to it here.

Valve clearances! Totally shagged out, replaced 10/16 with 170 down from about 180-185

Got it turned over again, still running on 3!!!

    Checked spark, beautiful blue arc.
    Compression builds up well.
Valves were re-lapped into place during rebuild.

Back to tearing the carbs down, arrrghhh!! Whoever designed Mikuni CV carbs should be shot!

    [IMG] Cleaned up the z50j1,
will have her running first time since 1984 soon.

No rust on the frame, wiring seems untouched,
poured the 1980's Super fuel out and polished the tank and plastics.
This is true love, best bike ive ever had the pleasure of working on.
