The XS is on the operating table, all good news so far with the top of the engine, full head & cylinder rebuild with all the old parts, Flexi honed the barrels, surface ground the head, re cut & seated the valves, measured the bores & all well in spec, new second hand pistons winging their way from America & a new set of rings. Bottom end next.
She'll be something more comfortable to ride away, but it's likely to end up with a single seat & clip ons !
Picked up the new compressor today, 8hr round trip ! Who said i am a piker.
Big huge 3 phase monster, 4 head twin pump, dual tanks, the big tank is 2.7m tall & 600mm dia, no lack of air for sand blasting anymore.

Lost in a sea of fizz. It has blue wheels so it is actually the something but with the other thing bodywork and carbs and something. Yeah, I think I got it.

@Willrcr15 What is the XS again? That sounds like a hell of a day's work. My flex hones arrived this week too, but I want to blast and paint the engine with Cerakote first.

The XS is an 1100, this ones an 81 model, the spare bike is a 79 model, it was supposed to be a parts bike but I think I'll do a second rebuild, there's almost a full bike there anyway. The first bike seems to have all the parts there & the parts bike probably won't be needed.
Dad's a retired mechanic & a painfully slow perfectionist, he has access to an engineering workshop, lucky stuff.
It wasn't all done in a day, he spent 6 hrs lapping in the valves to perfection.
I bought a new Flexi Hone, about $80, a lot for only a few turns in each bore, I think it's an aluminium oxide job 240 grit or it could have been a silicone carbide, got all confusing as the original one I got was an inch too small & when I returned it he didn't have the same in the larger size & sold me the different compound but said it was better, the right one for cast iron bores.
The bores were measured after the hone & found to be in spec but with some taper & hourglass wear.
I was surprised to hear the silicone would cross hatch a Nikasil bore good for new rings, weve got a couple of NSR's & an RGV with Nikasil bores
Cerakote is interesting, I'll have a look at it, there an engine paint made here that we'll probably use, I'll find out what it is, it's one of Dads finds, self levelling ??

a phone call would have saved you the 80 bucks- have a few expnsive ones here with a variety of grit hone stones.

Ceramic coating, nice, hadn't thought about it.
    Looks like nice stuff.
Now there's another option, damn, too many options.
The silvery light grey looks nice.

Well my engine cases are disgusting and I really have limited options. This is the Gun-Kote version in silver, but they basically cannot export whereas Cerakote can. Your right about there being so many colours to choose from.
When I ordered the Titanium colour for my engine covers, the shipping cost by FedEx was about $24. Very happy with that. I just overhauled my small bead blasting cabinet and I am going to buy a small industrial oven for the baking process. You can use it on plastic too, so I can paint the caps on the top of the carbs. Just don't know what colour to use yet.

I bought mine from the US about $34 each. http://www.enginehones.com/bc214400ao.html
On the back of the cardboard it has the grit and type. I thought the SC were for iron and the aluminium oxide can be used on Nikasil and Iron?

The green knobs are the standard dust caps for the Ducati kits.

Up at phils place, his silver zxr250 a model would not start, the starter motor would not engage after a rebuild. We worked out the starter motor was spinning in reverse, so its been stripped and reassembled , guess what its now spinning the right way. Poured some fuel in and it started up
