If you want to return to original style, the UK has heaps of 400s. I think fairings are available on eBay as new reproduction, and then sell your Tyga fairings to someone with a write-off track bike. Let me know when track day is, though I might have to wait this year out - I've used up all my injury days at work for this year...
Drained the oil and removed the filter from my project CBR250 MC19. Plan is to get it on the race track in a months time but I think I may be unrealistic with that expectation haha. As it was recently purchased and not running I have been going through the normal check lists. Removed the water pump to ensure its not seized so making a bit of progress I guess Yet to figure out why I have no power at the starter motor.....
Take jumper lead from battery positive to starter to see if problem is in wiring to starter or in the actual motor itself.
You have to have goals. Depends if you are racing or just track day; racing has a lot more regulations to comply with, like tie-wiring a bunch of nuts and bolts
Yes , the old girl will be a P6 race bike eventually I have a wee CBR125R to do commuter lites in the time being.
My recently conjoined MC38 is having a kissathon between valves & pistons, cylinder bank B, initial teardown looks like 1 poofteenth interference fit, tomorrow I'll fit a 1.2mm copper head gasket & let them play with play dough, measure the squished bit, subtract the oem gasket thickness to accurately measure, then plan a gasket to suit (more bloody money ) One day the **** I buy will be good ****, not **** ****
Has the head been shaved or something? I'd be checking valve timing. There is meant to be a little overlap, but there should be clearance. Or did you buy Alibaba pistons? Don't forget to allow for flex and stretch and wear; it might take up a few fractions of a mm when doing 20,000rpm
Well I havent been doing much lately... too many other things happening and this week it all came to a head... looks like we are on the move South... to the border. The better half managed to score a nice new job based in Albury (her Aussie home town) and resigned her current job today... we also managed to find a house to rent today as well... in Wodonga so in around 6 weeks we will be all moved (I hope). I will have some stuff that I will be selling off.. first dibs to Forum brothers / sisters (do we still have any) and then the general unwashed will be allowed to have a go. I wont be sorry to leave Sydney.. and I will still be looking after Northern NSW for Work so not much will change really... OMG.. the stuff I need to move
Bought a front headstock and rear paddock stand for the ZXR, test fitted my ZR250 wheel, and then removed both wheels to be sent in for new tyres to be fitted. I'm going to go for the ContiMotion 140/70-17 rear and 110/70-17 front, they seem to be a decent long lasting tyre from reviews. Used Oxford 12x1.25mm bobbins, they fitted perfectly, front headstock stand required the front guard to come off but that was a piece of cake while the bike was still on the ground. Used a 16mm headstock pin. I might pop a new thread up in the Kawi 250/4cyl forum about the wheel.
Several head off antics over several days:- Valve / piston clearance with 1.2mm "test" head gasket - 1.45mm " " 2 x OEM gaskets 0.93mm " " 1 x OEM gasket 0.52mm The last test was done again with 2 complete rotations of the crankshaft, when the play dough firms up in a few days (Plasticine would have been better, but there's none in town )I'll mic it properly, but with a visual..it's ,more than that,,, Something else it going where it has no room to go, like one of the head bolts under the cam gear cassette seemed to soooo close to fouling the edge of the intake lobe, #3 , since it was replaced (by necessity) with a button headed allen screw & SS washer,,,,,
@GreyImport: I'll see your Gene Autry original and raise you a handful of covers. Welcome to Mexico @Andych https://sonichits.com/video/Gene_Merlino/South_of_the_Border_[I_Simpson]
If that is the sort of music Mexicans like they are in for a rude shock when the Angels, Black Sabbath etc come ringing out of my Garage...
Nice work. Its a bummer you had to remove the front guard. Can you alter the pick up stand at all to avoid that in the future? I have a CORSA front and rear stand. The head stock one goes straight up and in to four off my bikes with no dramas , R6, TZR250 3MA , CBR250R & NSR150SP
Made progress on the CBR250R yesterday , new starter solenoid and we are in business. As bike has not run in I don't know how long, I have carbs off to inspect , clean and re jet today. That should keep me out of the wife's hair for half a day
Turned out to be a faulty starter solenoid The bike has not run in a long time so just running over the carbs , etc etc. Has great spark so that's a promising sign .
Are you sure it's the solenoid? Some have a 3-conditions circuit for the starter, and there can different combinations (side-stand, clutch and neutral). Sounds like you've checked, though. If it were a Kawasaki I would added starter button.
