i clocked an indicated 182km/h last wednesday on a 2 mile straight stretch. for the more safety concious among us, it was a dead straight road with an airfield on one side and a field on the other, there was no one around and it was 6.40 in the morning!! i can keep up with my mates modded Mitsi Lancer GSR (NOT EVO) 1.8 Turbo dohc 4wd until at least 100km/h. its putting out around 240bhp and the 4wd and relitivly close standard gearing give it wicked acceleration, but the little fizzer is well able to keep up!!
hell yea...... cant beat it ay..... so much fun on these bikes 182kmh....nice work, thats so f&*king fast.... the most ive got to is about 130 but that was about a week afta i started ridin, so i think i would go way faster now if i felt the need.....
All those people who are topping out at about 150-160km/h - are you backing off or is that it? To me it sounds like you need a carby balance & tune, and possibly richen the mixture up slightly. Even without a fuel pump on mine and in a bad state of tune it would easily rake up to 170-175. In a good state of tune and a full tank it would happily race to 175 then keep going up to ~185-190 (more often than not i'd run out of straight runway yes orificer, an airport runway.) If your trying to eek out that last few km/h then i'd say get your feet up onto the pegs, tuck your ankles in, and get that fat gut down onto the tank & your skid lid down behind that screen. Oh, and as for fairings... on my 'experimental' runs when i've been running with minimal fairings i have found it makes a significant difference to any speed over 130km/h. With side fairings removed, it'd top out at ~175 km/h. With side & front removed, it'd top out at ~170 km/h. All of this coming from a guy who has "Almost evading the police since '00" as his MSN comment.
after taking my bike out for its first really long run i've come back to this thread. I really felt like mine was lacking power but i did have a head wind and no fairings so that must have made a significant difference, only took her up to 130 but was in 6th and didnt have any accelleration, mind revs were only about 11k felt a bit nervous of taking the revs that high really wanted to get an idea of what they are supposed to do before i pushed her too hard. I think mine needs a bit more of a tune and its fairings on really! Interesing to read how other people are doing, and anyway i'm very impressed with her great fun
If your really wanting to go hard, i wouldn't be changing into 6th gear until your at about 150km/h. Any less than that and you won't be high enough the rev range to push 6th gear properly. That said, it is very possible to do a roll on in 6th and wind it out to top speed; it'll just take alot longer. I'll let you know how the top speed goes with 2 teeth down on the front, when she decides to play nice again. Theoretically it'll top out at ~180km/h but it'll get there ALOT quicker.
Yeah, Right!!! In all fairness, mine is probably still running the factory chain/sprocket only having done 16000K's and is genuine in every other way (i.e. not been dicked around with by some spotty teenager) But, the thing runs out of legs, not guts and pulls upto 160km without having to beat the nuts off of it in 5th gear so it has a chance of pulling a mega ratio 6th. I reckon that given a day, a box of assorted sprockets, and a long streight road it would be possible to find a ratio/chain speed that would max out at 200Ks. Of course the downside to this would be an eternity to get there. However, having "raced" my mate in his Lancer GSR last night and totally living with it, I will be leaving mine on factory standard final drive ratio.
Feel like checking the gearing ratio for us? (How many teeth front & rear sprockets have?) What rpm are you crusing at 100km/h in 6th at? Rolling off the factory floor the FZR250 gear ratio (which AFAIK didn't change between models) allows for ~185km/h even with a moderately heavy 80kg rider. With all this tweaking (ie. being dicked around by some spotty teenager), i'd be guessing it would indeed be beyond that. Whilst not knowing exactly how much tweaking/tinkering my bike has received (other than the slip on straight through pipe), i can firmly state that i've been beyond 185km/h with 2 other riders being able to verify that speed (they we're along side me laughing at me hugging the tank!).
Mine has been off the clock and my guess is 185 ~ 190, only being 65kg I think it is entirely possible to break 200 with the right sprockets.
Hehe, yeah... being small & light would certainly help! Me, i'm a 6'3" 80kg and kinda a bit lanky. Tucking down onto the tank really helps me eek out those last few clicks.
LOL a stock FZR250 2KR... with a bit of good loving and servicing can pull 180Km/h and with a sproket change... 200Km/h... how I know?? I did it and tested it... with a radar gun as the speedo does not go over 180...
size isn't really a factor in top speed, colin edwards is one of thew largest riders in motogp yet he has the most aerodynamically effiecient body shape weight will only affect the accelleration of the bike rather than top speed
my looks like its doing 200 kmh standing still!!! my fzr can do a amazing top speed of 60 mph WoW aint it great nah it's got problems, trying to sort it out at the moment. but it looks amazing though it's the 1988 model with a dream machine paint job very nice unfortunately it don't work properly
Well i'm finally back on the road (all be it wet roads ) and have the 15 tooth front sprocket on there; all i can say so far is wooooah! I must admit i was getting rather bored with the poor little FZR, with not quite enough go and always feeling like i had to wring it's neck to get anywhere quickly. Whilst i'm still pushing it (street riding between 7-14k rpm), it certainly has a serious amount more poke off the line. I'm waiting for a dry day before i really go out and give it a hard push; but in the 50km's or so i did today it was certainly ALOT of fun! Once i came to terms with the fact that i had to do a bit more gear shifting, it was brilliant! One one occasion in an 80km/h zone, it felt like i had to shift the entire way through the box before reaching the other side of an intersection (i'm sure it was only 3rd or so); but when i looked down at the speedo realised i done 0-100 in less than the space of the intersection. Quick for a 2-fiddy four stroke, and still quick when compared to the 2 strokers. In theory the new sprocket will drop my top speed to around 180km/h approaching redline in 6th, but as i said before... i'll get there ALOT quicker. I'm rather keen to line it up against a mates GPX again and see how much quicker it is now; after he changed his rear up a couple of teeth his was almost as quick off the line (not quite still). All i can say is it FELT fast.
Had mine up to 160 with a bit left to go had to slow down because i ran out of road, its a 88 2kr no exup. It has no fairing but still pulling at that speed so mabey yours needs a tune up?
Koma, don't suppose you want to post info on changing the front / rear sprocket in the how to section, would you? I wouldn't mind looking into that.
Gimme about another week or so, and i'll have time to write it up. Rather busy with uni at the moment. I've got all the photo's sitting here waiting for me to write up a how-to for the front sprocket (didnt do the rear), and a how-to for replacing the clutch plates & 'tweaking' the springs.
