I prefer the 'if you know the area' option... i've had a fair few stomping grounds over the years and tend to know the roads extremely well. This unfortunately leads to me riding very cautiously over new terrain which is probably a good thing.

Are there any salt-flats in Aus? That would be awesome. Pure speed on those things.

WOAH! I just heard on the news some guy on a motorbike in Otago roads getting clocked at 330kph by the cops!!! Im not sure what happend to him, a lot of those guys have their plates covered.
I thought the hayabusa couldnt even clock up that!? What the hell was he riding!!!!??? The cops down here have sissy rules so they cant get the blighters if there is any "danger" and they have no show against a half decent motorbike anyway. Bring back the NZ police bikes. I rekon they should all get R1s.

A few bikes can hit 330km/h without much of a worry... ok well the big concern at those speeds is cornering & stopping.
Any of the following modified/turbo bikes can break the 330km/h mark:-

- Hayabusa
- GSXR1000
- R1
- Blackbird
- ZX10R
- ZX12R
... or pretty much and litre plus recent turbo bike.

Mine was at 170 and took about another km to get past 180.. Clock only goes to 180 so either way aint bad for a 2KR...

Remember guys, thats an indicated 180.
Just as a reference point... those wacky guys at Kwakasaki made the ZX2R read so optomistically that some people are getting 210 indicated and 185 detected with a GPS.

That's a good point koma
Apparently my bike is reads optimistic by around 10km/hr, as my step bro was riding back from phillip island on my bike (his was out of commission) he was doing an indicated 120-130km/hr and had the cops follow him a fair way before they decided to pull him over and tell him he was doing up to 140km/hr around some of the corners.
Although they only booked him for 123km/hr

I was doing about 105km 110km and a cop pulled me over and sead I was doing 120km 125km but he let me off because I gave him a guy on a stolen Z750 who thought my back yard was a race trak till me and dad got him.

most ive had mine up to is 120 , but as ive only been riding about 3weeks so still on learners, my speed limit on open road is only 70k, i thought i would stick to 100 for the moment as 50k over speed limit is instant loss of licence

Yeah! Pffft...
Probably just like the cops that pulled me for doing an 'estimated' 135km/h down the onramp of the Eastern Freeway! I asked them if they actually got a reading on me and the ummmed and aaah then admitted no. I questioned how they made the judgement i was doing those speeds after adamantly denying it (i was accelerating from the 60km/h to the 100km/h limit); to which they said...

"We had to do 135km/h to catch up to you so you must've been doing atleast that fast!"

... think fella's... think. Nope? Nothing?
Aaaaaannyway.

I love onramps... One of the few places you can wind up a bike in relative safety (i.e. all cars going in 1 direction, no cars will pull out in front, etc) while still in the city.

Hey boz, good to see your still alive!
I love those on-ramps too - one of the best is heading outbound on the westgate fwy and taking the city link exit (just before the westgate bridge). Lovely left hand sweeper which goes on forever and encourages full lean angle!
Those concrete barriers keep you honest, though.

Hehe... that'd be the classic Bolte Bridge sweeper! Luuurv that corner.
It was better when it was 3 lanes but apparently trucks kept losing their load and/or worse, so they re-set it to 2 lanes. Still awesome if you get the inside lane and wind out the throttle a bit... but not as easy to get a knee down anymore.

Did that sweeper yesterday. I don't put my knee down but the pegs were mighty close to the road - I can tell because my boot scraped (I hang it off the peg a bit.. It's how my feet naturally go plus it's fair warning for getting too far down..)

On the way to clunes, just past creswick, I finally decided to see what the fizzer can do, so without winding it up in 5th (didn't seem like it needed to) I got it to 170k/h fairly easily and it didn't take very long. Also, I can say the revs weren't very high at all. About.. what.. not even 14krpm?
It had a bit more in it but I didn't. There was a crest up ahead.

Wow, do the bugs hit hard at that speed or what?

Roflol.. wait till you cop a Bogong moth to the neck or visor whilst travelling with a bit of pace. I ended up with what looked like a hickey on my neck after a crunchy one got me at... well lets just say it was a multiple of the 'recommended speed'.

Maybe it was a suicide moth employed by the coppers... A way of getting their own back

Yeah I know what you mean. With the drought and now decent rainfall we had an explosion in locust numbers. It sure turns around a good days riding when you find yourself punching through a swarm at 120km/h. Oh and the cleaning off of the carcasses is ridiculous, I keep finding them all over the place melted on the exhaust, even found a couple tucked away under the air box....

Got my 85 phazer to a grand 150k at the top of a rise. Then the tought of no body armour crept in. Found out just recently, (bike has been in storage for a couple of years), that the head gaskit was blown to poo and a bent conrod.. It scared me then, i so cant wait to get this table spread of motor pieces back together.
