I might try higher density foam first because its a cheaper and easier job and could yield good results. If it doesn't work out I will get some 118, 115, 115, 118's and take the carbs off and replace a few seals and boots for piece of mind.
Clark Rubber is open till 7pm tonight so I will pop around and grab the other densities of poly and try them out and get back with the results.

Ok got the screw out using screw extractor, wasn't the easiest task and cost me my lunch at work but its out.
I actually used one of the screws from the windshield bracket as a temporary replacement to keep the tank down.

    **update**

so i put higher density foam in and it amplified the problem x10 at 15k revs and lost power across the board *scratches head*. I am starting to think this has something to do with my needle shim job or something. I am going to put the low density foam back in and I am tempted to go back to 1 washer and see how it performs.
Other option is to remove the air filter under tray with the 2 circular mesh grates to try run it even leaner to see how it behaves.
    I dunno any advice?

Put the standard air filter back in... you're wasting your time and money otherwise

Under tray removed 100% resolved the issue with no trade off. Low density filter back in and I am good and ready to do a dyno run tomorrow woooo! We shall SEE who is wasting their money and time =p.

    ". . . any advice?"
    Is that a rhetorical question?

    Sure here's some.
Throw the air box and filter away. That rubbish is just blocking all the power. Fit 180 main jets, 90 pilots, and 5mm shims under the needles. Honda are so stupid. What would they know anyway? They make their bikes as slow as they can so that ummm .... well anyway they just do. So big jets is big power, right? I read all about it on the internet with the "carb calc" web page written by "My name is Darren and this is my blog". Then you will need a 180 section rear tyre so that you can handle all the extra power. After all, there is no such thing as too much grip, right? Honda only put that little tyre on to save money.

You have alot of underlying hate for what I am trying to accomplish here.
That statement is ridiculous and as much as I can appreciate the humour and angle your going for there are MANY things honda do that do not apply in a track situation. Perhaps you missed the title of the thread "track ready mc22".
I mean I can be just as ridiculous if you want "Why use racing glass, you need the hardwired headlights for safety on the track so that other riders can see you from behind thorugh thier taped up mirrors!"
There are plenty of succesfull and legitimate mods that are proven to lower your lap times on the track. There is just a stigma about power mods and instead of resolving the problems you just make it harder for people to access the infomation.
Lets be clear, it is NOT impossible to get more power out of the bike. So why critisize people for trying to?
You will all be eating your words when I get my dyno results tomorrow, then I will share with the world the exact setup I have and I will be the guy that figured it out.
Even if it reduces the engines life (which is a more logical argument) I suspect the bike will be crashed and dead long before that happens on the track.

Gee lighten up, just having some fun. I do not have any hatred about this.

So here is my serious advice.
Racetracks are about lap times. If you can run Simon from Team Tiger Racing down, but he is pulling away from you on the straights, then by all means start searching for that extra hp. I have watched a lot of Simon's videos and he seems to get passed on the straights by a lot of bikes, 400s etc and I don't remember him passing anyone on a straight, obviously it must happen sometime, and yet he is the one who wins championship and breaks lap records in his class. So all of the time, money and angst that you are spending on finding more power is nowhere as productive as doing the laps and learning racecraft. Ask anyone who has been on a track, it is all about how fast you can go around the corners.
    cheers
    Blair

Hahaha I'm sure deep down somewhere in @simidau 's heart he feels this strange feeling that some random dude is gonna take down his eastern creek lap time record with an mc22 and its all gonna come down to the iridium spark plugs.
I am good at video games and that applies on the track so I dont need to practise. #100%truth

    @Damus

99% of your posts are questions ...... good , bad , silly , newbie , serious , excellent or wateva

The answers on an open forum from people that share a common interest will be the same .... good , bad , silly, newbie, serious , excellent ..... but also maybe humorous or CYNICAL.

If you have experienced other forums you will find this one to be extremely polite and helpful
You will also find some extremely knowledgeable folk on here
Guys with experience ... guys that have dealt with an engine more times than u have had a hot dinner
We are lucky to have regular people like @maelstrom @Murdo @risky that are here to help and answer people like you and me with the very technical stuff etc

What people here are trying to do is advise you .....theres no use in asking a question , getting the correct advice , then disregarding it and doing the opposite. ...... sure go out and experiment but if you want advice and opinions you have to take on that info....... and accept when u are told youre incorrect or you are going about something totally wrong.
And dont worry your not alone .... but thats forums for you.

    End of rant

And by the way .... the gentleman pictured above is Soichiro Honda ..... he made a few Yen engineering and building motorcycles......damn good at it too.

I think its cool that Damus is experimenting for more horses, these are 25 year old bikes and many have tried, some succeed and some dont. The best part is that he is learning and posting his feedback which is cool. I think the only real downside is that we dont have dyno results to validate if the incremental improvements he makes increases or decreases his output. He has a goal of 50 horses which is 5 up on the factory spec , I say good luck and gods speed... could be worse, he could be pissing it against a wall and riding the bus.

I was young once, I chased the horse power dream on my 1979 Mark 2 Ford Escort... I know where he is coming from.

Now im off to IT to request a copy of Autocad, Im going to design a new swingarm so I can shoehorn in a 180 rear for my ZXR250, oh that's right I am IT, time to download Autocad for dummies and crack on.

here is my suggestion- run big jets and use nitro methanol for fuel. add a supercharger and a turbo.add some super grippy tyres and a handfull of brave pills.take out both hospital and life insurance with me as beneficiary. add a touch of hydrazine and go for a ride. on the straights the back tyre will smoke. just watch simon pass you on the corners. drain the fuel at the end of the race as hydrazine can explode. LOL. now being serious - i built a stock fj drag engine and changed gear at 7000 rpm. felt good till the clutch pedal vibrated on the floor. cranks never lasted 1100 miles.motor is out of the car and in the shed- has been there since 1970.why- cost of new cranks beat the prizemoney.i learnt a lot- the motor was overstressed and what i wanted was beyond its design parameters. i also learnt how to change a crankshaft quickly due to experience. would i go back racing-YEP IF SOMEBODY ELSE PAID/am i in simons league on a bike- in one word no.what i will say seriously is you learn from experience which often comes with age.good luck in your endevours.

I actually did overtake a bike down the straight at Eastern Creek, I'm going to see if I got it on camera and make a video!!! Got a perfect slip stream on Steve Kairl on his 1989 Honda RS125 GP bike. The headwind slowed him down a bit and I had the correct distance between us to capitalise, once we picked up a bit of speed, I got sucked along and BAM I just drove right past him. It was amazing, this driving past people to overtake has merit!

LOL @ your Iridium Plugs joke.. But when you drive past me I'm getting a set ;)
