We just fitted Marlboro fairings to a 91FZR250 & am a bit disappointed with them. We have a MC21 in pieces, doing a restore & have all the Tyga bits here incl the rear upper sgl seat & were going to do the Lucky Strike like tour mates, How did his fit & what is the close detail like ? Just wondering if we got a crappy manufacturer, 'Bits for Bikes' on ebay. We will probably get the Tyga front now but not looking forward to all the painting.
Hi Will, He told me it all fitted well. I've just bought a set of Parts 4 Bikes fairings for my bike and while I haven't fitted them yet, the quality looks pretty good. I'm happy with the paint and the decals on the panels. Cheers Jim
Ive also got an MC16 down the bottom of the garden but I "ll have to wait untill I get the shed completed until I tackle that one.
Finally decided to pull my finger out and start the makeover. I've been umming and ahhing about wet blasting. In the end I got my fork sliders done as a test and they have come up very nicely. I also spent a bit of time cleaning the front discs while I am waiting for some repairs / repaint to my front wheel. Rob at Ace of Sprays just finished my tank as well. Looks the goods. Bad news is I stripped the engine and it looks to me like I might have to get the barrels replated. At least it will give me an excuse to get the cases wet blasted as well ha ha. I'm getting a few bits and pieces powder coated / plated. Few photos attached of some parts I picked up today. Mate with the disk make sure they are not below the 3.5 mm thickness or they wont pass the road worthy.
It's already registered fortunately Briz. I got that done before I stuck all the illegal gear on it . The discs are actually in pretty good shape by the look of them.
Got them done by Wayne in Jimboomba. His website is wetblasting.net The two forks legs were 60 bucks. I'm thinking I might get the engine cases done too. Probably be a few hundred or so for them. It's not an abrasive blast so it won't take off things like powder coat and some paints. It basically burnishes the metal. This means any scratches or imperfections will still be there after the blasting so if your fork sliders or whatever are badly marked then you probably need to sand them back before getting the wet blasting done (even very small scratches etc show up). If you look closely at the pictures I posted, you'll see where the original cast marks are and where the factory used a linishing belt on the outside of the forks. That gives you sort of an idea that what is there to start with stays there. It's meant to be safe on gasket surfaces too. The medium is glass though so it's not good for bearings etc. If you use a Soda blast you don't necessarily have to remove bearings because if you wash it well enough with water afterwards, the soda will dissolve. A lot of the cafe racer guys use the wet blasting on their engines. The finish doesn't mark easily and as long as you keep it clean and don't get salt or something on it, it's meant to last well. Cheers mate Jim
Got my forks and shock back from Suspension Improvements today. New seals / valving / oil / bushes / gas. Also got a fly wheel puller / power valve shaft puller combo tool and finally got the power valves out of the barrels as well. On Monday I'll send them off to Millennium Engineering in the states for electroplating and porting. Looking forward to fitting them to the bike once I get back from work .
Millennium Engineering in the states for electroplating fox are these guys the gurus as i thought you can get the plating done here on the east coast
It's all hearesay Noah, but I've heard never heard a bad thing about them. For less than the price of getting just the plating done in Aus, I can post my barrels there and back and have the cylinders plated plus ported.
