Took a few shots of my front brake calipers when I tore them down just before I left for work. Don't think they'd been looked at for a while! No wonder the brakes felt notchy. Hopefully the master cylinder kit, new seals and braided lines will help too.
How do the pistons look ? You won't believe the difference afterwards ! What pads you thinking of ? Ebc are decent , get the HH rated ones . FA187 I think
Hi Neal, The pistons should be OK I think. I did my old trick of soaking them in used gear box oil for a few days then cleaning them with an old scotchbrite pad also soaked in gear box oil. In fact, as messy as it is, that's how I clean most of my parts and it seems to remove just about anything without being abrasive. Once I'd finished with the cleaning there was no pitting that I could see and they all passed the "fingernail" test. I think I have some photos at home from before I made them back up. When I get back from work I'll post them. The pads look nearly new so I was going to re-use them but thanks for the tip on the EBC pads. There are a lot of pads on the market for these brakes and I haven't been sure which ones to run. Cheers Jim
Should get the barrels back shortly so I spent the last few days pulling down the engine. Tomorrow give everything a clean then fit the new crank.
Yeah it all came apart pretty well. I was going to get the cases wet blasted but I think I might just give them a decent scrub
This is going to be one sweet bike. Great work. After washing my bike I used to always spray the bare castings with WD40. The next time you wash your bike they will go back to their original state. The only downside is that dust sort of sticks to the WD40 coated parts. cheers Blair
Wetblasting is fantastic I reckon. I'm just going to use a bit of silicone spray on the engine once it's assembled. Still waiting on the barrels damn it.
