From one Fox to another.........when are we going for a spin mate or even a get together to compare machines?
Hi mboddy, Yes they are from Tyga. They are designed for the MC21 and MC28 engine specifically so they fit well. That's the only photo I have I'm afraid - they are in the engine, in the frame now so it would be a bit of work to get them out. According to Tyga they should add 1-2 hp. The main reason I got them though was just the age of the original parts. I'm not sure if they would fit 34mm carbs. If you email Matt or Paul at Tyga they will be sure to help you out. Matt is the main guy for the technical stuff. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Tyga and I'm impressed by the quality for the price they are asking - particularly the triple clamps, rear sets and exhaust. As far as the MC28 goes, their price for new Honda parts is really good too. Cheers Jim
Soon I hope mate. I was pretty busy my last break moving house and helping my sister move amongst other things so I didn't get as much time as I would have liked to work on the bike. That said it's a rolling chassis now - all that remains is to fix the kickstart which isn't working as it should (clutch case off again damn it), adjust the power valves, adjust and check the oil injection pump, check the fluids, stick the tank on and then see if it will run. I've gone from 140 mains to 170s so I can heat cycle the engine without fear of nipping it up before I take it to the dyno for tuning. Then it's just the fairings and I'm away. I'm back at work now though so it all has to wait another 4 weeks until my return. I'm starting to get a bit impatient with it all to be honest. Realistically it will probably be back on the road within 2 weeks of me getting back from work and will look a bit like this except with a bit of bling and hopefully a lot faster: Cheers Jim
Ha Aky! I agree the HRC colours are pretty nice. Most people tend to go for the Rothmans colours with these bikes but the picture above is of the 1995 NSR250SP model which was based on the 1994 NSR500 that Mick Doohan won his first 500cc GP title on. Here is a shot of Doohan's bike from that year: Unfortunately the fairings I have are only reproductions. You can't get them new anymore but I hope to assemble second hand original panels for the NSR over time. Here is the year correct stock colours for my bike (1996 NSR250 SE R2T) which also look pretty good I reckon.
Unfortunately I'm still in PNG Aky. When I get back on the 10th I hope to get a week to work on the bike before I head up to Fraser Island for 10 days of dirt biking and fishing. And maybe a few cold ones of course . So at the moment the bike is a rolling chassis with the engine in, the electricals installed and the suspension / brakes done. What remains is for me to pull the clutch case off and troubleshoot the kickstarter (I hope it's just the spring not seated correctly or something) set the oil injection pump, set the power valves, put the tank on and start it up. That may sound straight forward but I have a bit of a head scratch with the the ignition. You may have read earlier in this thread that I bought an HRC ignition for it to unleash the beast within. Problem is it is meant for track only so you have to fiddle with the wiring harness to get the lights / blinkers / horn / sidestand switch etc working for the road. Even after the fiddling the speedo won't work so I've decided to run a Trailtech Vapor for that. The HRC ignition came with a Ethos Wiresplice Socket which I was hoping to use to avoid cutting the factory harness. Problem is no-one can tell me how to hook it up. Even the Tyga and NSR World gurus have never seen it before. Initially no-one could even say if it was for a PGMIII ignition on an MC21 or a PGMIV ignition like I have on the MC28 but after emailing a few Japanese guys who used to work for Ethos I'm pretty sure it is for the MC28. Plus it came plugged in to the used HRC PGMIV ignition when I bought it. If I plug the HRC ignition straight up to the wiring harness, the ignition works fine but obviously then I would get no lights etc. If I put the Ethos socket in between the ignition and wiring harness, there is no power to the ignition. There is a single orange wire coming out of the Ethos socket that I assume is meant to run to 12volt but until I am certain I don't want to test it lest I fry my expensive and fairly rare HRC ignition. I also don't know for sure if the Ethos socket will still allow for the oil injection system to work. If I don't use the Ethos socket, I will have to cut and solder some wires in the harness which I don't want to do as the harness is new and I want to be able to return the bike to stock easily. So anyway hopefully I can get the info on that Ethos socket somehow and get it working. I don't mind running premix but I'd rather not as it's a pain on long rides and if I do I'll probably have to order some larger jets which will delay things even more. It will be easy enough to check if the injection is working just by running the bike on premix and checking to see if the pump works when I rev the bike. Anyway long story short I just want it running sooner rather than later so I may end up biting the bullet and doing the cut and solder job unless I can find the information I need on the Ethos socket by the time I get back home. My brother just bought a brand new Truimph Daytona so I am keen as mustard to get out for a ride with him. Never ridden one of those Daytonas and he likes the old NSR so we can do some swaps.
Alright finally managed to sort out the ignition and get it started today. Nothing leaked. Jetting seems close but I haven't ridden it yet. Few pictures.
And a video. Had the choke on though. Certainly is. Now I have to work out a few electrical niggles and it will be ready fir a test run.
Yep, I bought their rear sets for my MC 22 track bike , I also did a XZR250 with their body work, was a real head turner
Video of the first revving. Just heat cycling the engine. Bit of smoke from the cans is just from the engine oil I used during assembly. Now it just blows a poomteenth of smoke the way it should. As mentioned in a few other posts, my brother managed to drop his bike on the NSR though so it needs some cosmetic repairs damn it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/123906084@N03/14208541304/
A minor setback in the big scheme of things Huntsman but very vexing nonetheless. Back to the paint shop I go.
