Cable is ok and brand new .... it has full travel .... I just wasnt rolling it full on in that vid ... believe me Ive done everything I could think of when the problem arises Just swapped out the fuel pump and about to go out riding, If I dont post in 3 days send out the search party.
Im back! Didnt even make it out the driveway ...... dont worry bout a search party ..... send the scrap metal dealer.
I will go for Occam's Razor, my weapon of choice. 1/ You had a bike that would go 15 minutes before conking out. 2/ You swapped in a second hand fuel pump. 3/ You did not make it out of the driveway. Based on this excellent logic "She's a witch burn her" Therefore the second hand fuel pump is not as good as the original one, so you must burn it.
Thankyou for your thoughtful insight Mr Green opposite can be said for my 2 wives .... second one is better than the original but they are both fukin useless in the end.
so I changed the pump again .... no revs changed the black box again ..... no revs So now I cant even get out of the backyard Plugged in the spare pump to make sure power was getting there ..... no problem plugged in the pump in the bike ...... full revs again Rode up the road and back , accelerated like stink again Got to the driveway , stalled and on restart ...... NO revs again So back to square one again and I have NO FUCKIN IDEA what it is!
Just a couple of the needle jets were a little worn and I couldnt get hold of a new set ...... that should only affect midrange power ..... its accelerating fine when the gremlin is sleeping.
grey, i will be generous and offer you 75 bucks for that heap of crap so you will stop worrying. sound fair to you????
My 2 bits worth I have perused all of your recent posting on this issue, think your carbs are fine, kinda get the feeling that it is an electrical problem. You plugged the fuel pump and bingo, full rev range. Up the road and back and suddenly power is lost again. Sounds like a connector is loose or something is shorting when bike is ridden. That's what I would be looking at, even if a connector looks ok, check them all.
Ideas!!! Ok process of elimination. Lets stay with fuel supply as the issue. We have to assume then that the fuel is running out and there is only enough to idle and nothing more. If there was any more then there would be an immediate response when you pull the choke, yes? Now what are the possibilities? 1/ The floats are getting stuck closed. (difficult to imagine that all of them would get stuck at the same time) 2/ Fuel hose/filter is being obstructed. 3/ Fuel tap is being obstructed 4/ Vacuum line to fuel tap is being obstructed 5/ Tank vent is being obstructed 6/ fuel pump is not pumping The easiest way to bypass everything is to remove the tank and zip tie some small fuel tank to the bike, connect another hose directly to the carbs and ride up the road again. That should eliminate everything except (1). Is this possible Mr Grey?
Phil, If it was electrical then surely it should just conk out and that would be it, but Mr Grey can start up and idle only, as I understand it. What do you think? I thought it was both, that being the fuel pump which is electrical and supplies the fuel. But now it would have to be either both pumps have the same problem, or as you suggested as the fault being electrical, maybe the pump is losing electrical power after some time and that loss of power is external to the pump. Thoughts?
My thoughts are that by this time it would be driving me batty. Could be time for Grey to take it to Gaskin for some professional help.
Hey Blair This bike of GI's has got me stumped, after all the work and set on the carbs, seemed to have that side of it covered. Why I thought electrical was simple, he plugged the fuel pump in and got revs straight away, pump was working. Quick fang up the road and back, suddenly back to idle only, no revs got me thinking fuel pump=electrical issue. I certainly don't profess any serious mechanical back ground, simple minded deduction on my behalf. Wondering if the pump or should I say pumps are faulty??? one I can buy, 2 sounds a little out there. To be honest Blair, I've rarely seen a bike give this much heart ache, got me stumped.
That makes good sense, he has tried his best but something doesn't gel. A mechanic will probably pinpoint the problem rapidly.
Are you sure this thing isn't a Harley ? Get the multimeter , check the stator is making current under load , check the voltage reg is holding up under load Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well I cleaned my fuel tap/petcock yesterday, very easy to do, two screws to remove it from the frame, two more to open the unit - in the ultrasonic for 20 minutes came out clean I did have rust residue build up in mine, which for a bike that's been sitting could constrict fuel flow if there's sufficient gunk accumulated peace out
